If the 911 operators and police officers had been doing their job, this tragedy could have been prevented. We like to think of Jeffrey Dahmer as some sort of mastermind monster, but in reality one of his most horrific kills has much to owe to the incompetence of law enforcement.
The murder of Konerak Sinthasomphone by Jeffrey Dahmer could have been prevented if the 911 operator would have just listened to Cleveland's concerns and taken them a little more serious. It's obvious the information that was given to Cleveland was not true because Konerak was, indeed, a child, as was the concern of the 911 call.
Yes, I believe that Konerak Sinthasomphone would have probably still been alive today if officers didn't just make the assumptions that they did and investigated a bizarre situation more thoroughly. The young boy was naked, under the influence of drugs and bleeding from his rectum. That should have set off some more red flags and not simply dismissed as a "lover's quarrel"
Given the account found on Wikipedia it is clear that the police officers themselves were somewhat libelous in this incident as they did not follow up properly to the 911 call. Had these officers actually done their job properly Jeffrey Dahmer could have been stopped at this very point, none the less, they did not.
The police gave short shrift to circumstances surrounding a naked, confused teenager wandering the street. Not only did they not investigate any potential priors in Jeffrey Dahmer's background, they apparently didn't bother to call Social Services or any other agency to assist the 14 year old. Had they done so, they would have discovered that the youth had a brother who Dahmer was convicted of molesting. It is clear that the fate of this child resulted from negligence of the police.
His death could not have been prevented. A three inch deep hole had been drilled into his
skull, causing a fatal brain injury. This is how many of Dahmer's other victims met their demise. He was trying to create submissive "zombies". What could've been prevented were the murders that followed.
