Developed countries have a higher obligation to combat climate change: Are developed states more obligated because poorer states are harmed most?

Developed countries have a higher obligation to combat climate change: Are developed states more obligated because poorer states are harmed most?
  • We cause more of the problem!

When it comes to emission and green house gases being released in the air, developed states are primary responsible for their existence. Even though the whole world should do their part, developed states should be held accountable because they are the ones contributing the most to the problem. Developed states also have more power and resources to contribute to combat climate change as well.

  • Poorer state are more affected because of their own actions

Poorer states often choose to make things as cheaply as possible, to have a leg up in the market, and therefore exports. One of the many reasons foreign goods are cheaper than domestic in wealthier countries is the cost of producing those goods in an environmentally friendly way. In developing countries, rather than compete on a level field, and cutting pollution, they choose to produce as cheaply as possible, which causes pollution in their nations. It is not the responsibility of wealthier nations to combat pollution in other nations. Climate change in and of itself is happening, there is nothing we can do to change it, as there is nothing we have done to cause it. It is not anyones responsibility to combat climate change.
