His methods might be disputed but so far he had lowered the tension between the middle east and the US and his drone strikes are far more effective than a military raid or an air strike. As for human rights he does not violate them and this news about edward snowden...There's more to it..We just don''t know about that
I feel that President Barack Obama deserved the Nobel Peace Prize for his ability to inspire hope and to transcend and dissolve political boundaries that not only repressed progress, but created threatening situations.
He doesn't deserve the Nobel Peace Prize because he has not accomplished anything yet, plain and simple. It was not the right timing. Bono and Angelina Jolie have done more work than President Obama. There are so many other people deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize. I am not against President Obama, in fact I voted for him, but I am not sure what criteria he met to have received the Prize.
Internally, Obama has increased government espionage on American citizens. Overseas, Obama has kept Guantanamo Bay open, used drones attacks to a larger extent than Bush, armed terrorists, and supported the spread of religious Islamic fanatics all over the Middle East. Today the administration just announced that the US will be arming Syria. So now we are sending weapons to Islamic extremists to overthrow a regime that is keeping the extremists in check. How is that worthy of the Noble Peace Prize?
He is not Martin Luther King but a criminal killing innocent people around the planet. So he deserves to be judged by an international court of law. He gave the orders for assassination using drones. Many went in front of the international court for less. This is why it was crazy to give him this prize before showing his real personality.
Obama doesn't deserve to win any prize, unless it's the most unpatriotic president award. Him getting that prize is just absurd. He's not a good president and he awards himself enough with his constant vacations, and the huge sums of money he wastes on himself. Why would e ever get that prize? He hasn't done anything useful or to even help create peace.
He barely was in office, and did nothing as a senator. Total failure. He did nothing to get it, and he launches drones left and right. He doesn't deserve the award, it's a no brainer. There is no reason he should have gotten it. That's all I got. I ask the pros to give 1 valid reason.
He had barely gotten into office. Not only that but he ended up starting even more wars.
The only president in our history who ever deserved a nobel peace prize was Kennedy. He was the last president to actually talk for peace.
In his acceptance speech, President Obama admitted that he did not deserve the Prize. He had not done anything yet, when the Prize was awarded. Actually, it was kind of embarrassing for the Nobel Prize committee to make that egregious of an award.
Barack Obama had not been in office long enough in 2009 to have made the "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy" for which he was credited by the prize committee. Jimmy Carter, by comparison, won the Nobel in 2002 for his "decades of untiring efforts to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts...". President Obama may prove himself worthy of similar accolades at some time in the distant future, but he had not done so at the time of his award.
He had been president less than a year, and in that time he had done nothing to end either conflict in Iraq or Afghanistan. Since the award, he has embroiled us in two more regional conflicts (Yemen and Libya) and his vitriolic rhetoric aimed at sitting congress members and state governors does little to bring peace even in our own country.
The President did not perform any act or establish a forum or institution that, in any manner, encouraged, enhanced, or established peace. While his ideals are noble and he calls for peace, this is, in no manner, an act that distinguishes him from millions of other humans. The award was not so much an honor for him, but a rebuke of his predecessor, George Bush, for the policies in Iraq and Afghanistan. Lest one forget, this "peace" president ordered the direct murder of Osama bin Laden, which is not an act of a man of peace.
President Barack Obama did not deserve to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize because he had done nothing to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize. The Prize was awarded with hopes of him earning it. Thus far, Barack Obama has done nothing to promote peace. His foreign relations policies have generated an atmosphere of tension, rather than peace.
