Did the Patriots deserve to win Super Bowl XXXVI?

  • Obviously, the stats show who won both games.

The New England Patriots did deserve to win Super Bowl XXXVI. They won the game and it is posted everywhere. People who watched the game say the ending score whether they liked it or not. However, this is not were the debate started. It began when the Patriots beat the Colts in the AFC playoff game and the referees discovered that some of the balls the Patriots used were deflated. Their evidence shows that this was only for the first half, whereas in the second half there where none and the Patriots still outscored the Colts twenty eight to seven.
The opposition may say that the Patriots did not deserve to win because they cheated in the first half of a game or how they have a record for cheating. However, the Patriots team as a whole did not cheat; it was a locker room attendant and somewhat Tom Brady. Most people who are fans of the Patriots might say that Tom Brady is innocent and that he didn’t know that the balls were deflated, but any quarterback in the NFL would know if a ball felt different. Referring back to the point that the Patriots deflated the ball in the first half against the Colts, the outcome would not have been any different. They still beat them in the second half with normally inflated balls and the game’s result was no different. According to Bill Crowder, a respected Christian writer for Sports Spectrum Chaplain, states that “In the days following the game, accusations of cheating were leveled against the Patriots when 11 of the 12 footballs used by the Pats in the game were found to have been severely underinflated—allegedly making them easier to throw and catch. No one has said that this was why the Patriots won the game, yet controversies were started” (Sport.Org). The Patriots may have done some wrong in the past, but they still deserve to keep the AFC title and the title of Super Bowl Champions.

  • Yes, they won fair and square

With how much money goes into the Super Bowl, I don't see how a team could win it without deserving it. This question implies that there was cheating, and you would think that cheating or misconduct would easily be found out. So yes, since the Patriots did win, then I think that they deserved to win.

  • They did

Marshall Faulk still hates them and always will for this game, but note when he talks about it he's not a moron like the Bart Scotts of the world. He hates the Patriots because the Rams never recovered from this lost, the Patriots showed the league how to beat them. Instead of trying to prevent them from getting yards, concede that they're going to and make sure you get a good hit on them when they do. By the end of the game they can't keep their faces off the ground.

  • They Deserved It

Of course the New England Patriots deserved to win Super Bowl XXXVI. The score at the end of the game indicated that. They were the best team on the field that day and beat the St. Louis Rams in a fair game. There were no questionable calls or anything to make someone question the Patriots Super Bowl win that year.

  • Yes.

Simple argument, they did win, and thus they deserved to win. Underdog to "The Greatest Show on Turf" or not, they outplayed the Rams and won. That is a testament to their gameplan, their players, and their coaches overcoming the mirrored aspects on the opposing sidelines. A game was played and a victor was decided. Simple as that.

  • They are cheaters

No they did not deserve the win because they should have never been there in the first place. They patriots were caught using deflated balls to help with grip giving them an edge granted they may have not needed one against the colts but the is besides the fact, they cheated. When Brady says he was unaware that the balls were deflated, that's a lie. He has been playing football all his life and I am sure he was aware the balls were much softer then normal. The patriots have also demonstrated a history of being cheaters because we all know that they were caught red handed video taping the jets practice in 2005, oh a year after they won a Super Bowl, makes you wonder did the video tape the eagles practice before the big game to help give themself am edge? They are cheaters always have been and always will be. Nothing will happen of course due to goodell being a lacky of the patriots owner and proving the nfl does not care about cheaters, does not care about women being beaten by their players, that they only care about money and don't care how they get it. Goodell is a scumbag, the patriots owner is a scumbag, they are all dishonest and have taken everything away from the purity of the game. It's a shame because we are seeing the major sports leagues do this everywhere, manipulate the purity of the game for example the NBA draft's fake lottery system. Cleveland got the first round pick three out of 4 years, that's because the NBA handed that to then so they could get James back. Also the lottery is a ridiculous idea in its own right that the team that wins the championship has ANY chance of getting the first overall pick. So as we can see major league sports are corrupt and until the fans or morally righteous owners take a stand they will continue to get worse .

  • Officials said otherwise

    Overly liberal pass interference non-calls.
Vrabel's uncalled roughness/shot to Warner's head on the Ty Law INT.
Redmond being called out of bounds on the last drive when he was obviously in.
Clock run off to end the game following the Vindarini FG.
Hard not to win the game when the officials are on your side.
Pats were a good team, but they weren't the better team that day.

  • They didn't deserve to win!

They cheated. They deflated the balls, and every Patriot fan is trying to come up with an excuse to defend them. Well it's not going to work this time. The Baltimore Ravens should've been playing the Indianapolis Colts to see who goes to the super bowl. I wish Tom Brady will get sacked and get injured😡😡😡😡.

  • Cheat on a test, you fail

Cheat on a test, you fail
Cheat in a game, your disqualified
Cheat in the biggest game in football, I guess your totally fine and pardoned.
    What doesn't make sense there?
That's why the patriots should not earn that super bowl title.
Now, you would not be able to disqualify them and send Seattle as the champion. That is just undoable
But the Pats should be well known as cheaters and don't deserve that ring

  • They did not deserve it!

Any person that tries to defend Tom Brady in support that he "was not aware of any wrongdoing," is either supremely gullible or has the intelligence of a potato. I have no idea how many footballs an NFL quarterback will grab/hold/squeeze throughout a season but I think it's safe to say >10k (and this was the end of the season, so max #). Now this leaves two possible scenarios, either the Patriots use underinflated balls each week (could explain the absolute insane differential in fumbles between them and the rest of the league) OR Tom Brady could without a doubt know that these are 2-4 lbs. Lighter than every other week.

The NFL prides themselves (or tries to) on being a positive influence to our youth. Youth can take one lesson from last season: "If we cheat (break rules flat out) then we can become Champions!!"

They should have the Super Bowl title stripped away.

Patriot fans argue that it had no effect on the game, probably so. That's so far from the actual issue that it's hysterical. Cheating is cheating is cheating...Doesn't matter to what end would or would not have been with or without the act of cheating.

As a lifelong Pats fan this incident has really cheapen the current state of the game/league and above all my beloved Patriots. For all of you fellow Patsnation participants, you sound just as arrogant as Kraft/Belichick and Brady when you deflect the situation by attacking the accusers or rambling about it having no effect on the outcome of the game.
