Close to half of all marriages end in divorce. This has lead to more divorcee's than ever before in the general population. What was once taboo is now a socially accepted norm. It is more common to meet someone who is divorced than someone who can write in cursive. Times have changed.
Divorce is widely accepted among America. It may be looked down on, or frowned about, but there is no question, (especially when about 50% of marriage ends in divorce), that it is a socially acceptable action. There are some alternatives to marriage and/or divorce, that could change this number, but for the most part, I think marriage and divorce are equally accepted in modern society today.
