Do CEOs of successful corporations make too much money?

  • They are paid 300 times more than the average worker.

CEOs are paid 300 times more than the average worker. If they make too much money why hasn't anyone done anything about this concern? This is a good reason why CEOs make too much money. Sometimes people try to persuade other people that they do or don't make too much money.

  • The Pay Is Not Justified

A lot of CEOs fail and then receive a 'golden parachute' clause from their contract. I firmly believe that CEOs should be paid only 20% more than the 'on the floor worker'. When the company is doing well then the workers should be paid more than the CEO. He can get his raise.

  • Yes - Enough is Enough.

While being a CEO is an incredibly important position, there are years when employees of companies go without any raises only to find that the top executives in the firm have awarded themselves bonuses. If the company is performing so poorly, perhaps those individuals should take a pay cut as well. It has been joked that keeping your job is the new raise. But in this economy, I think it's actually true.

  • Yes, they are overpaid.

I understand that being a CEO is a specialized and important job, but when they are being paid forty to fifty times more than their employees, it is absurd. This implies that their job skills are forty to fifty times more valuable than the average person, which I do not believe. I think that we glorify the job of CEO and pay these people far too much for the work they do.

  • 300 times more than the average is ridiculous

To make 300 times what the average employee makes is outlandish. There is a board that makes decisons and the ceo really justhas final approval. If the ceo wasto only make 150 times more employees at the floor level would be paid more and therefore have more to put back into the economy, making all businesses better. With the prices of necessities growing more expensive and salaries of the middle and lower class holding almost to the point of stagnation we are headed toward a tipping point. A point where no-one will have money to spend on non essential items.

  • Yes they do

CEOs certainly make far too much, and this needs to be curbed. The rewards and bonuses, besides all the money they make off of workers in the form of capital gains, is far too much and is contributing to the economic problems we are facing today. Time to reign in the fat cats.

  • Scale should be more linear

Some would argue that top execs are responsible for the well-being of the corporation but short of outright fraud, their failure to succeed leads to reassignment or a comfortable transition out the door which invokes a lottery windfall. Many subordinate employees are held to a higher standard with less tolerance for mediocre performance and if relieved of their duties and unceremoniously shown the door with little to no severance. Most executives are no smarter than the average employee and have limitless resources to help them succeed and do their job effectively....Compensating them 100 or even 1000 times the average worker is nothing short of ridiculous....We are all being bamboozled....

  • Workers' Needs Unmet in America

Large corporations have enough to pay ALL their employees 12/hour for at least 32 hours a week, plus benefits. When a company says that they cannot afford to, what they really mean is this: "We can't afford to do that and to be rich." For political reasons, they leave out the "rich" part in their arguements for capitalist freedom. Capitalism will only work if everyone gets their needs met by ALL employers. This includes Chick-fil-a, Lifeway Bookstore, and some other businesses that are closed on Sundays while their employees go broke because they can't afford to live on their wages.

  • They Deserve The Pay

I do not believe that some bosses earn too much. These bosses have worked a lot harder than the average person to be in the position they are. The CEO of any company has more responsibilities than we can even imagine. CEO's earn every penny they get. A CEO has to be a fantastic leader, know how to run a company, and make the most important decisions that will keep a company going. Without a good CEO, there would be no company. Although CEO's make about 300 times more than the average worker, I do believe that these bosses deserve the pay that they are receiving.

  • CEO's earn every penny they get.

The CEO of a company deserves every penny they get. The company needs a good leader, someone who knows how to run a company and make the most important decisions that will keep the company going. They have a huge amount of responsibilities that are much more critical than other jobs in the company, and their decisions can single handedly make the company successful or fail. The success or failure of the company also determines the pay of the CEO. Many don't even have a salary but are paid by the goals that are set for them. If they achieve the goals then they will get paid. Other people in the company may not make as much, but without a good CEO there would be no company. Many CEO's work all the time as well, exceeding 100 hours a week. They are responsible for the company 24/7. I think that people need to stop being so jealous and grow up. Be a leader not a whiner and do something better with your life than complaining and being jealous. You should aspire to do something great instead of doing the easy think, which is knocking other people down who you are jealous of. Take risks. You won't always be a success but you can be resilient and maybe if you find it you can be a CEO or entrepreneur someday and have a true impact on the world and be your own independent person

  • No; it may not be fair but it's a fact of life

Let's get real on this. Businesses exist to make money and their CEO's guide them in this direction. In the process they also provide jobs, a requirement for the success of our economy. Forgive me if I sound harsh but these are the cold hard realities. Is it fair for CEO's to make the salaries that they make? The answer to this question is: "probably not". On the flip side we might as well accept the fact that some positions pay more than others. It's a matter of economics, not personal value. It may not seem fairs but the jobs of others depend upon these CEO's and companies will compensate them based upon their value to the corporation. Sometimes this value is well above where we think it should be, but it is what it is.

  • This is non-sense

The CEO of a company is paid so much because they have an incredible number of tasks to complete and the most responsibility in a company. I haven't even mentioned the amount of stress at this level. Your biggest worry is that a shipment doesn't go out, or the status report doesn't get done. CEO's of these "successful corporations", have to consider billion dollar decisions. Please take a moment and legitimately think about that for a moment.

The market will correct for an incompetent company leader quickly. That's why they make so much.

  • Ceo work hard

Ceo have lots on their plate. They deal with a lot of task, projects, and obstacles. They basically have the whole weight of a company on their shoulders. Everyone looks to the ceo for answers. Whether its people outside the organization, employees, co-workers or the board of directors. So dealing with all that gives them a big pay advantage

  • The Pay Is Justified

I do not think that CEOs get paid too much. I think they are paid according to how much they are worth to the business they work for. It's really immature to complain about how much money the next person has or makes. Obviously someone thinks they are worth every penny.
