Do festivals lose their significance because of commercialization?

  • Hey guys i think....

Commercialisation has sucked the soul out of festivals. What was once a counter-cultural movement has become corrupted and destroyed by the profit motive. Festivals were originally free non-profit community based events based on anti-corporate values and a rejection of conservatism. By erecting fences and and tagging festival goers the whole experience is corrupted, and ticket holders are no more than consumers at a commercial event. This problem has been made worse by the corporate world realising the potential of the festival market and travesties such as 'V festival' and Reading festival popping up

People who go to the festivals do not normally even know what they are about or what they represent, and just want to go there to have fun. The festivals themselves only want to bring in money and do not care about what they represent.

  • Festivals Are About Community

Do believe the significance of festivals is reduced because of commercialization. I think this is true of any event that was originally intended to be about family gatherings or community gatherings. Commercialization is someone trying to profit off of something that was never intended to be profitable, but rather enjoyable. Festivals are meant to bring communities together, not make a buck.

  • Yes Of Course

I think the basic aim of any festival is to show our love for god and when one commercializes festivals, that basic aim is forgotten and everyone involved is thinking, "What am I going to get on this festival."
It is really important to think again whether commercialisation is needed or not when we think of festivals.

  • Festivals do not lose their significance because of commercialization.

Festivals do not lose their significance because of commercialization. Commercialization helps both with the funding of the festival making it possible to create even bigger events and it helps to spread the word and get more attendance at these events. I think that over done it can be bad for them because of reputation.
