Do individuals have a moral obligation to assist people in need?

  • People Just Don't Get it

You see, the people who aren't supporting this argument are either rich people who are too selfish to even share a penny or the people who have no clue what is going on around them. Most of the non-supporting group hasn't been opened to the real world. Think about it this way, if you were out of money and needed 2 dollars to get on the bus, would you want someone to help you out, because I sure would. There are a lot of underprivileged in our world today because one wrong move and you could be out on the streets begging for money. Recently i went to Mexico to help fix an orphanage, it really opened my eyes to what the real world is like, and not just the little fantasy that us privileged live in. Life is happening around us people, its time to open your eyes and realize what really wrong.

  • Yes We Do

I think we should or yes because If you do help those in need you will feel better about yourself. It also puts a smile on God's face. Brody did say no but If you are like Donald Trump you are evil. Don't be racist evil or greedy like Trump.

  • Why Shouldn't We?

Helping people does not have to be hard; it can be as simple as carrying a bag of groceries for your neighbor or changing a tire, although that is probably not the easiest form of service. If you saw someone on the street that was struggling to move boxes, would you simply drive by, without giving them a second thought, without feeling a twinge of guilt for knowing that you could have helped them, but you didn't? You are going to need help sometime in your life, just like everyone. What about the Golden Rule that has been drilled into children's heads since they are in preschool? If you don't try to help someone in their time of need, then why should they help you? You can provide the example and encourage others to desire to help people. They will be busy and feel fulfilled, and not simply sit idly while the world suffers. THAT is why we should all strive to help people if we see that they need it, and we will

  • Duh r u kidding me

Be a good person, help someone out an good karma will in return be reflected onto you. Help make the world go round. If you help someone out maybe someone will help you out. When someone sees another person doing something out of the good of their heart it will inspire them to do good, it is a chain reaction for world peace just be a good person it isn't that hard!!!! :))))

  • It's just a big circle

At some point in your life, you will need someone else. To make your clothes, fix your car, or unclog your toilet. Someone was a part of making the computer your looking at, whether it was shipping it, selling it, or even producing it. If all you do is take form society you are not a "morally correct" human being. To be well rounded you have to give back in some way.

  • Help When You Can

People cannot live independently from society. At some point, every person depends on another human being for assistance. You never know when you are going to depend on someone, or who that someone will be. Therefore, it's best to help a person in need. Otherwise, you are unfairly taking without giving back to society.

  • How can this be a question?

We are human beings on one planet. Us against nature and the failings of other men. We should see the world as a team. To help another is to help yourself. In a perfect world. It is less than perfect but it could be much better if everyone lent a hand.

  • Natural Law Is in Us All

Of course! Whose job is it? The governments? No, it's individuals. Natural law is within every person, which leads us to have the obligation to help our fellow man. Granted, we can't help everyone at all times, but the obligation is there, waiting to be fulfilled when the chance comes.

  • If it's the right thing to do you should do it

We should help people in need if it's opening a door or giving some money to a cause you believe in.

Think for a moment that you were in need, of food, shelter, medical care, love, support ect you'd want someone to help you with a hand up not a hand out.

People in need might be lazy but most have been dealt a hand in life they don't know how to cope with.

  • We Are All Connected

History has taught man that when one person lacks, he will terrorize the community or an individual person(s) until he get what he wants. What are the negative side effects of lack aka Capitalism? Prostitution, gangs, crimes, robberies, theft, divorce, slavery, imperialism, fraud, prisons, police, religion i.e. Until all are housed, feed, clothes i.e. we are all suffering & vulnerable to robbery, murder, house evasion etc. Because the item your in or have in your hand might be the thing the person whose struggle need to survive!

  • What are morals?

What are morals? I do not believe in the existence of morals, just the evolution of self preservation. As Homo sapiens are social beings, the survival of our community instinctively rests on our shoulders, therefore we help for the continuation of our species. If humans were not reared as social beings, for example, in a society or a community, would we be obliged to help others? No, because it endangers ourselves. Therefore, as nature dictates, we have no moral obligations to assist others. Neither do we have morals.

  • Machiavelli

Humanity or at least the argument of it is false. Humanity as in life is the need for survival and the drive for betterment. Egalitarianism ruins the natural struggle and disrupts progress. This is degeneration and cannot be tolerated ans humankind struggles enough against itself and stands on the cusp of destruction by climate change.

  • Gotta love opinion questions based on LD topics...

Anyway, no I don't think people have a moral obligation since a) it would imply that morality is objective so that we could hold a moral obligation in the first place, and b) even if morality were objective, people base our actions off of what is in our own self-interest, and although we may hold other reasons for helping people in need, those reasons are ultimately based off of what is in our own self-interest (i.e. we can do charity work for the good feeling it gives us on the inside), and our own desires cannot support a moral obligation, only moral permissibility.

  • No, society structures have taken over that role.

So now you should help someone in trouble or good old neighborly stuff. Needs are fulfilled somewhere else and preferably by needy themselves. It is also not possible to be obligated individually to help everyone in need as one person has rarely so many means resources and time. So it is false obligation toward individual responsibility, and it implies others needs before your own; you end up being one of the needy.
