Do Public Religions Deserve To Be Denigrated, Because They Always Fail Their BOP Commitment?

Asked by: Sagey
  • We all deserve to believe in whatever suits us privately, Though: Pushing Our Beliefs Publicly Commits Us To Demonstrating Proof For Such Beliefs.

This is the reason Skeptics/Agnostics/Atheists Exist in societies.
If all people practiced their beliefs privately without pushing them into the Public Domain as being Real and Holding Absolute Truth as public religions persist in asserting, there would be no requirement for public skepticism and Atheism.
This is demonstrated by the evidence that in a truly Secular society, where religions are not promoted publicly, public atheism disappears and thus there is both freedom to believe and disbelieve without contention or ridicule.

Because no religion has any real proof that their religion is the one true religion and in fact no proof that the object of their worship actually exists, they are thus Ridiculed For Failing Their Burden Of Proof (BOP) Commitment.
Because to believe in a religion requires no BOP as the proof is your own internal consideration, nobody need question it.

Though the moment you try to convince anybody else, especially the General Public, the BOP becomes your Commitment, and if you fail such a demonstration of proof for your belief, you should expect to be Denigrated/Ridiculed.

Because it is equivalent to selling Olive Oil as a Cure For Cancer.
Like religion, Olive Oil has been used for centuries, and perhaps once upon a time some believed and the occasional Anecdotal Claim may have been made that it cured somebody's cancer.
Though over time, such claims have been deemed false and fraudulent, and now such claims fall on deaf ears as the public has developed a strong general consensus that such claims are bogus.

Exactly the same scenario now goes for Religion, as religion has never been able to demonstrate any consistent evidence for it's claims, as some claim Christianity reduces crime by it's adherence to the teachings of Jesus Christ, but statistically, most of the crimes committed in Christian societies are by Christians.
Thus a critical review of History demonstrates most of the claims of Christianity are as bogus as Olive Oil curing cancer.

    3 Solutions:
1: Religion can reduce and possibly even stop their being Publicly Denigrated or Ridiculed is to stop pushing their unprovable claims in the Public Arena, such as on DDO and simply Believe In Private, not even Atheists will deny them, nor ridicule them for Private Beliefs.

2: Find Irrefutable Evidence for their Beliefs, then they will destroy Skepticism and likely have most Atheists believing along with them.

3: Find a deserted island and build a society that only has their belief system and not allow non-believers inside. They will likely be ridiculed by the rest of the world, so they will also need to cut off all communication with outsiders. Some Islamic countries are already attempting to do this by banning the Internet from their country or state.

    What Do You Think?

  • Not really denigrated.

Denigrated means to criticize UNfairly. I tend to criticize them fairly.
Some claim that religious people are stupid, not me, many are very intelligent. The problem with the ones that are actually smart is they fail to be able to apply logic. Again, I am not saying they lack logic but only fail to be able to apply to religion. The religion is so ingrained into them that it interrupts the logic signals in the brain. No matter how simply you put the logic, their brain just blocks them from understanding. I believe is a result of the long-term brain-washing they received.

  • Religion is can

Assertions require, in order to establish credibility, demonstrable evidence, and/or tangible material, and/or empirical support, and/or the utilization of our sensory apparatus to confirm that the assertion is indeed a validity.

Asserting that Harry potter's broomstick, the Nimbus 2000, exists physically beyond the book, requires the burden of proof to verify the physical existence of the broomstick. Unless the evidence can be accounted for, the notion is merely a statement pending verification.

Moreover, if religious occupants permeate their beliefs amongst the public with the intent to demonstrate God's existence, the burden of proof resides with them, and if fails to do so, their proclamations should be denigrated.

  • Proving a religion would make it not a religion

The whole idea behind religion is that you are believing in something that cannot be proved. The way that people are usually converted is not because they see something in the religion that they believe to be true, or real.

Also, by the same reasoning, you can ridicule and denigrate anyone who thinks evolution and the big bang THEORIES are true. (Not saying they aren't, and I personally believe that they are correct) By the nature of what they say, they can never be truly proved. There is no way to go back 13 billion years and see the big bang happen. Yes, there is evidence that they are correct. That does not mean that they have been proved though.

  • Give it up.

I think we should face the fact that it is pretty near impossible to prove or disprove anything beyond all doubt. That doesn't mean that we may not have extremely good reasons for adopting a particular position one way or the other. Nor does it mean it's not worth discussing or debating. I'm an atheist, but to me it's a cop out by atheists to insist that all the BOP lies with religion.

  • Why do so many people assume BOP is /only/ on one person?

BOP fluctuates throughout the argument. It doesn't matter whether God or whoever one might believe in exists or not. If someone makes the claim "Such-and-such a deity exists," yes, they should have some sort of factual evidence for that because they have made a claim. BUT. If the opponent makes a claim that such-and-such a deity does /not/ exists, they, too, must show evidence for this sort of claim. So, in conclusion, a claim is a claim and BOP switches as the argument carries on. Whether someone successfully meets their BOP by arguing objective points is up to them.

  • Seriously? Do you read?

The fact atheists never bother to read what religions actually use to support their religion, and are reduced to, at best poor caricatures of religion, or blind ignorance of actual claims is not failing the BOP. The side not listening is the one that has the failure. Being deaf to anything but ones preconceptions is not a logical failure on anyone else but those who choose deliberately not to listen or read.

I've looked on Google several times for the acronym for B.O.P. But I cannot find it. Well, I may have. But there was a lot of definitions. Someone tell me what B.O.P. In this context means please.

Burden of Proof.

If you read the statement I made, you will see it means Burden Of Proof.
If you make a public statement as public religions do: We Are The Truth, or We Are The One True Religion, or We Can Save You From Hell, then the Burden Of Proof is on them to demonstrate their Claim(s).
The practical truth is, they never demonstrate their claims as Honest and Truthful, and then they get very upset when people point this out in public, which is all most Atheists do, simply point out that they have no Proof for their claims.
Some religious Fundamentalists get so angry at their BOP failure being questioned that they Kill those who point out their failings, enter Fundamentalist Islam and even Catholicism were guilty of this only a couple of centuries ago.
Most of the Ugly parts of the Koran actually came from the Old Testament.

All Skeptics have ever done to Religion: Is to make it Accountable for Religions Lack Of Evidence For Public Religious Claims.
That Is All.

If Fundamentalists don't want to be ridiculed, they should not make claims that are not supported by real evidence.
If they do make such claims, they are simply Begging To Be Ridiculed for them.

If they keep their claims to themselves, nobody will ridicule their beliefs, no matter how irrational they are.
