Do school uniforms help create a sense of belonging and school pride?

  • Uniforms do create a sense of school pride.

When you walk around a town and people know what school you go to they are more likely to ask about it and what it is like. Schools with uniforms are great because you don't have to worry about how you look when you go to school because everyone looks just like you. There isn't a sense of pressure put on you to be the one covered in the most name brand items. I LOVE HAVING UNIFORMS!!!!

  • Average school uniform is less than one-third of a typical back-to-school wardrobe.

School uniform is something you buy once unlike normal clothes that you buy every month. It is cost effective. School uniform should be compulsory to all schools. Teenagers should not focus on their appearance but on their studies. Uniform also shows a form of belonging and accepted. Uniform is the way forward.

  • No ONE CAN JUDGE YOU

If you are dressed the same way as everyone else no one can judge the way you look except for makeup, hair or accessories. You feel pride because you can feel equal to everyone and not feel any less. This in my opinion helps you feel as if you belong in that school and that you are part of that school.

  • School uniforms increase a sense of belonging and school pride.

I will now move onto my arguments. First off, school uniforms increase a sense of belonging and school pride. Students without fancy clothing won’t be left out anymore or be picked on by more “richer” kids because of what they wear. Also, bullies will no longer make fun of other students if they are wearing school uniforms. They would just be criticizing themselves. Since everyone is wearing the same thing, everyone feels like they belong to the school community. Moving on, school uniforms increase school pride because your uniforms is screaming out, “I’m from this school and I’m proud of it!”. For example, someone had a school uniform and was at a science fair representing his school. He is the only one from his school there and is around a bunch of other students from other schools. He would feel proud to represent his own school at the science fair.

  • Lol this sucks

Firstly I am going to discuss the fact that if you wear a uniform it makes you feel like your part of a community. Everyone at unity is part of a community because we all wear a uniform and I’m not saying that at schools where they don’t wear uniforms they aren’t part of a community, I’m saying that wearing a uniform makes you feel more of a community.

  • Im a student.

I'm a student at a school who doesnt have uniforms, but i dont think there that bad. I'm actually doing a debate on this topic, and im on the affirmative side for proposing every school have uniforms. There are a lot of good reasons to have them, and yet again there are a lot of why we shouldn't. Its controversial, but i agree with "yes".

  • Yo to to

•Regardless of how much time parents spend teaching their children that materialistic attitudes are unbecoming and that it’s not right to judge someone based on the price tag of their clothing, some kids are simply determined to judge their classmates’ clothing. When everyone is wearing the same thing, the “fashion police” tend to be less venomous.

  • Dont make kids where prisoner colors it makes them angry people.

Prisoners get put into colored rooms to change the way they react, people where clothes and act different in different colors, make kids shine and feel special and of course my last piece of advice teachers should be in uniform as well as it used to be,not trailer trash mini skirts with splits .........That shows no common decency to kids at all.....People get bullied because schools in charge raise there hands and say what do you want us to do our hands are tied head of schools statement.........Teachers don't want to lose there jobs so they say nothing or just become sarcastic...........I deal with it daily even though i issue the bill of rights to them .......They will do anything and say thing to get out of something that is generallly written by a lawyer statement........

  • Students do not want to wear uniforms

Kids should have the right to express themselves freely. By wearing uniforms kids are only getting angry and there is no point in wearing them for school spirit. Many studies show uniforms increase bulling not stop it. Think of what the kids want. Parents are spending unnecessary money that they don't need to spent.

  • School uniforms do not create a sense of belonging and school pride.

School uniforms do not create a sense of belonging and school pride. I have been in a school where school uniforms were mandatory. If you start dictating what a student should wear, it mostly creates problems and no sense of self style. Also it is harder on parents, even though you know what your child has to wear everyday, the maintenance and cleaning of these items start becoming very tedious with parents having to do a lot more laundry to keep the uniform clean.

  • Uniforms should not be encouraged.

I understand other's concerns about the brand of our own clothes and having a sense of belonging to the schools the uniforms belong to, but having to wear school uniforms everyday. Wouldn't it be boring?? Schools should have a variety of colored uniform or even jackets, as that would make the fashion statement in the school much more interesting. It would even bore someone to stare at the same word for more than 5 minutes, so what more the same color everyday?? Therefore, uniforms should have a variety of colors.

  • Uniforms just make everyone look alike

School uniforms serve the purpose of creating a level playing field. By having an entire student body dressed in the same manner, wearing the same color scheme helps to eliminate the distractions caused by a wide ranging social attire found in non-uniformed schools. There is no mockery between the haves and have-nots, the tough crowd, the geeks, etc.. There may be a sense of belonging, but it is from a mandatory edict that everybody dress the same. A desire to belong and have a sense of school pride develops from wanting to be at school. A teaching staff that connects with the students, participating in extra scholastic activities and the perception of the school held by the neighborhood carry far greater weight.
