Do security and civil liberties protect our freedoms?

  • As long as they are checked.

In order to have freedom in our country, we do need to feel safe and that we have our civil liberties. However, if we sacrifice too many of our civil liberties under the guise of security, then we we will lose our freedom. It is a fine line that needs to be walked carefully.

  • Civil Liberties More Important Than Security

Security against outside threats protect the American way of life. Civil liberties guarantee our freedom. However, Benjamin Franklin said it best when we give up our liberty for more security, we shall have neither. There is a fine line in a post-9/11 world between protecting ourselves and ensuring personal freedoms. Civil liberties must be upheld or we are no longer Americans.
