If everyone gives up one day's worth of salary, then the poor can be fed around the world. Just imagine all the money that can be accumulated and gathered if everyone put aside one day's worth of salary. We are looking at billions of dollars that can be invested to feed the poor and even educated them on many important issues like health, education, and poverty.
What's the average daily earnings of the worlds top 1% again? I 'm reasonably certain we could feed everyone for a day or two's worth of their earnings. Seems like a great plan. Or of course, we could cut military spending, so that maybe we're only spending as much as the next 20 countries combined or so.
Everyone giving up a day's salary may feed people around the globe for a limited time, but they would still run out of food eventually. Also, sometimes governments are the reasons people are starving. If the government doesn't allow people the access to food they will still be hungry. Many starving nations have supplies, but they never reach the people that need them.
If everyone in prosperous countries gives up one day's worth of salary, it does not translate into feeding the poor as the obstacles to feeding at this time are no longer economic but political. There is a will among many to feed the poor and there is the means developed by modern farming, but the way in which food can be freely made available is the problem.
I do not think that if everybody in prosperous countries were to give up one day's worth of salary that every poor person on Earth would be fed. I think that there are way too many people around the world that needs to be helped. And such an idea would be ridiculous.
