Do you believe the Spanish Inquisition was a precursor to the Holocaust centuries later?

  • Hitler Even Stated So:

Hitler when meeting with the Catholic church, highlighted the fact that the Catholics had persecuted the Jews for 1500 years, which included the inquisition, and that he was just helping them finish the job.

  • Yes, it was prejudice that got carried on.

The Spanish Inquisition was a pogrom against those who were not Christian, notably those of semitic backgrounds. The Jews were some of the main victims here and the attitude of the church and state toward them carried forward over time so tat by the twentieth century it was easy to target them for te Holocaust.

  • It Was a Precursor

History does not happen in a vacuum. Atrocities happen, and they end up becoming a precedent, whether cited or not by those who commit atrocities or not. So, yes, the Spanish Inquisition was a precursor to the Holocaust. The same could easily be said for the Armenian Genocide, which Hitler did take notice of.

  • precursor to the Holocaust

They were unrelated No, these to events are completely unrelated, and they did not have any kind of effect on each other. I think that the entire reason behind the holocaust was Adolph Hitler. I think that he was the only person who caused it, and he is the greatest public speaker ever.

  • The two are really unrelated.

The Spanish Inquisition was a Catholic and religious phenomenon which sought the mass and mandatory conversion of all to the Catholic religion. By contrast, the Holocaust was a secular and racial phenomenon which sought the elimination of alien (non-native of Europe) races from Europe. While both were detrimental to Jews, they were very different in their philosophy and aims and really had no direct connection to each other.

  • They were unrelated

No, these to events are completely unrelated, and they did not have any kind of effect on each other. I think that the entire reason behind the holocaust was Adolf Hitler. I think that he was the only person who caused it, and he is the greatest public speaker ever.
