• Greed has overtaken hip-hop.

Nowadays it’s hard to believe, but in the beginning, hip-hop
was not all about the money. Something
changed somewhere in the 90’s. The
control shifted from the artists who make the music to the corporations and
record labels who sign the artists.
Today greed is rampant in hip-hop because artists and executives are
only concerned with how much money the can make.

  • Generally this is true

If you listen to hip hop circa 1990 and if you take a listen now the difference is obviously apparent. They make it a point to let listeners know that they have more money that they can spend on frivolous items. Since a lot of people look up to these artist they try to mimic the lifestyle without the means to do so.
