Do you find (female) sexy video game characters sexist?

Asked by: Bluepaintcan123
  • It is sexist

The don't show off women's best features, they just make a man's perfect girl. They enhance the body parts, and they dumb them down. A woman is not perfect, and she never needs to dumb herself down for anyone. Plus I don't remember any games with men like that. Video games like that are just for lonely men with weird fetishes.

  • Sextist to the point that it insulting

I will state it now, I am not a feminist, however I find it highly insulting when the charters are highly sexualized in games and in manga or anime. Not only because of how they are dressed, it's because of how they often act ignorant, and only know about beauty and sex.

Men are potrayed in different roles, women shouldn't always have to be the sex bomb.

  • Yes, but not the way you're thinking

No women actually look like that. The over-sexualization of women in the media and pop-culture is unbelievably damaging to the way young girls view themselves, and eventually other women as they become adults. They find themselves constantly comparing themselves to these images and wondering why they will never look that way. Because no one does. The overload of these standards of beauty lead to depression, anxiety and eating disorders in millions of american girls every year.

If you'd like to educate yourself on the psychological harm that this sexualization does, read this report by the American Psychological Association.

  • Yes they are sexist.

The don't show off women's best features, they just make a man's perfect girl. They enhance the body parts, and they dumb them down. • I Like Them.

Personally I think that if a female character has exaggerated female qualities it should be considered pro-women. The fact that most female videogame characters are fighting machines while also being beautiful is great.
What about this do Feminists find objectionable? I say that we should make more female characters like this, because even other women like them, not just men.

  • Video games are developed for enjoyment and profit

And the reason for this is that the games you are thinking of are mainly targeted towards a male audience (because men and women are commonly interested in different things naturally) and saying that a video game character is sexist and objectifies women as being "sex objects" completely misses the point. Men are biologically attracted to women and vice versa (with some exceptions such as being gay or lesbian), this is a trait in both genders which cannot be reversed as a factor of evolution and life on Earth.

Since the argument is directed to sexy female women being objectified by men, we can safely say that yes, men do find sexy women attractive (and I'm assuming this applies to women towards handsome men as well) but we can't help that and it is also a woman’s choice to appear attractive. Sexy female characters whether in advertisement or video games is simply a marking strategy towards men and women because lets face it, most of us are attracted to those kind of characters.

To conclude, female characters used in this way should not be deemed as being sexist because the only reason they are used is because it makes the game more appealing and the implications of removing this appeal would result in fewer players and a marginal amount of less enjoyment whilst playing the game which overall would result to a lower profit for the game developers. People sometimes think that a smaller profit would be better than the cost of feminine respect but they do not realise that these kind of characters do not change the way we perceive woman in the real world.

  • LOL shut up professional victims

This has to be a joke. I can't believe anyone even said yes.

A videogame character that is depicted in a sexual way is not sexist.

According to the Merriam-Webster definition of sexism, sexism is the unfair treatment of someone due to their sex, prejudice or discrimination based on their sex, and negative stereotypes against someone because of their sex. Someone being sexy does not fall under any of those categories.

And to think outside of the box, a woman being sexy or dressed sexy or acting sexy or being attractive and wearing clothes that show off her attractiveness is not discrimination.

You see these video games with men like Duke Nukem, Solid Snake, Nathan Drake, ect? All attractive, muscular men. Because nobody wants to play as a fat slob (no offense to fat slobs), they (most people; feminists, SJW's, professional victims etc. don't fall in to this category) want to play as an attractive character, whether male or female.

This is not sexist, this is an attractive human being. Morons.
