Do you thing grades should be eliminated in education?

  • Grades Don't Represent Anything

You go to a class and work for an entire term. You do papers, projects, tests, class participation, and so forth. At the end of weeks of all this work, you get an alphabet letter on a report card. What does that letter represent? Does it represent that you are a good student? No, because people can get a good grade without studying. It doesn't represent an amount of effort or even a level of knowledge. Grades should be eliminated because they are meaningless.

  • Grades only show if you are lazy or not.

Anyone can get a good grade if they study. So the grade doesen't represent how smart you are, it represents how much you studied the night before the test. And then most people forget within a few days.
I REPEAT LAZY PEOPLE DON'T GET THE SAME ACADEMIC GROWTH AS THE HARD WORKING. #DIFFERENCEMATTER

  • Grades are a flawed showing of skill.

In high school, there is a lot of pressure to keep your grades up in order to get into a good school. But what do those grades really reflect? More often than not, "Congratulations, you completed the homework. 'A' for you." With very little emphasis on anything more than simply completing the work, and performing rote tasks.

  • Agree with this

It's life, get used to it. I think grades or percentages are good. We need to stop molly coddling and call it what it is. Life isn't going to be all fluffy when they grow up. Our child school has gone to grouping the kids into wide range words like "Developing" which has little meaning

  • Grades should not be eliminated in education.

Grades should not be eliminated in education because there would be no way to track a student's progress or a teacher's effectiveness. The movement toward removing any sense of competition between children has caused some people to lose any hold of their common sense. Grades are an important indicator of how much the students are learning.

  • We need assessment

I don't think that we have a very good education system and that we need to modify it, but we still need to have a continuation of the process of grades. You need to know if someone is understanding the material presented to them. There needs to be a lot of different assessments, but you need them.

  • Grades are a perfect tool for evaluation.

No, I don't think that grades should be eliminated in education. I don't care about your child's self esteem, or what pressure you think grades put on them. The fact of the matter is that we have to have some benchmark by which to measure a student's progress. Grades are an efficient way of doing that. Don't like getting bad grades? Then don't raise idiots.
