I don't understand how the fast food industry is so protected by wanton disregard for logic and knowledge. All the fast food industry sells is food that, if eaten every day, will make you fat and unhealthy quite quickly and, eventually, kill you - this has been demonstrated in many forms of media. Saying the fast food industry is lot liable for turning its customers into unhealthy, sugar-addicted "heavy users" (to borrow the term), is the same logic that would absolve gun manufacturers from playing their part in gun violence. If gun manufacturers stopped making guns, gun violence would EVENTUALLY go down over a long period of time (for many reasons), in the same fashion that if fast food companies started selling ONLY healthy meals, consumer health would improve over an extended period of time. But, just like gun manufacturers, fast food companies only care about 3 things: 1) selling their product to as many of us as possible; 2) creating "repeat" business; and 3) procuring enough revenue to gain the lobby power necessary to protect their industry(ies).
I think that fast food restaurants are the cause of children becoming obese because a good percent of the fast food restaurants any where in the world are doing nothing to try and prevent this crisis. Yes the saying "you are what you eat" does have something to do with the issue, that children are becoming so overweight, not only because kids are eating whatever they want at home but also because there is no actual structured outdoor/indoor exercise. I personally believe that the fast food restaurants should start to take into consideration that these places are likely to get into some serious health hazards. Like McDonald's for instance there new thing is to super size there meals and get twice the amount of food for just a little bit more in there price. To me that has disaster written all over it, not only cause of the amount of food but also the amount of calories, and fat in the food.
Yes indeed. We cannot blame the eater and exonerate the cook. The cook attracts the eater and like wise the eater responds. Without these fast food restaurants there would be no commercialised junk food and public eating. Hence to save the community from these fast food capitalists the governments must regulate the way they advertise. Remember children compete over who has eaten which burger and which restaurant. The fact that they advertise, means they want to psychologically lure the vulnerable groups such as children in our society. These food sharks are 100% responsible for child obesity.
The obesity epidemic has led to the postulation that highly palatable foods may be "addictive" for some individuals. Salty, sugary, and fatty processed foods are a global health epidemic, and an addiction that is becoming harder and harder to kick. Therefore, fast food restaurants have taken the initiatives to grab the attention of children as well as their parents with colorful unethical advertisements making a addiction like behavior.
Despite popular belief, parents cannot hope to combat the mass pressure placed on their children to eat in fast food restaurants. The whole force of the media, the fast food industry and peers encourage eating in fast food restaurants, and despite a parents influence, they cannot combat this. It then must fall on the shoulders of the fast food restaurants.
Here are some reasons why I think that. People choose the wrong and unhealthy meals and can be addicting. some people cannot control their eating habits. I think the restaurants should care about what people are eating. There are adults and kids that do not go and do sports or physical activities. Our bodies handle differently. There have been kids that are over sized at a very young age. Eating correctly can cause you to have health issues. They can limit on their fast food, but you should not go everyday for the wrong food that does not give you the right nutritious for your body.
I say yes because alot of kids are going to places like mcdonalds, burger king, or wendeys wich results in alot of trans fat wich is unhealthy for the body wich result in alot of kids and adults that dont have enough time to cook at home which results in going out to eat. Which also results in gainig weight each time going out to eat expecially if u dont have a high matabalisim then your weight will increase very fast at a high pace.
Yes because kids easily get addicted to foods especially foods that have tons of sugars and salt in it. It makes them want more and kids don't understand how unhealthy these kids of foods are. They don't understand what it could do to them. I seriously didn't know what it could do to me until I was in 8th grade and I saw the movie "Super Size Me". I haven't eaten much fast food since then because I now have a better understanding of what it can do to. Fast food restaurants are to be blame but parents also need to take the blame. They are allowing their own kids to eat tons of fast food and making them think that its okay to eat more and that nothing bad is going to happen to them.
Parents are part responsible in this case because it is their role to look after and protect their children so they should prevent them from eating in fast food restaurants.
However, it is not that easy since we are in a consumer society. Indeed , everything is set up to make us spend money in good or bad things and the mass media encourage it.
First of all Fast food restaurants are everywhere with big signboard so you can miss it, most of the time they are never far away (in strategic locations), the food is cheap and it comes fast.
Moreover, commercials on TV make it attractive. For instance at McDonald's, there is a meal dedicated to children, with toys so all children want to go there and have a gift and an hamburger. Mass media manipulate the children and make these restaurants which use bad products looks nice;
they attract parents too with the low prices and the proximity of the restaurants. So blame The media and these unhealthy restaurants also.
I agree that those restaurants contribute to child obesity, because they have a cheap, tasty and very caloric food, and you can find it in everywhere. Kids love this kind of food and get them to like healthy food becomes a difficult task. They can't understand all the negative effects that this ritual brings, and in many times not even their parents. So those parents let them eat it a lot, and the result are fatty kids and in the future, fat and sick adults.
Although everyone has the right to choose what they eat and are responsible for the outcome of what they choose to eat, Mcdonalds use ingredients that have beenproven to become addictive and have the same affect to people that alcohol and cigarettes have. Although Mcdonalds do not promote to eat thier food for three meals everyday they dont suggest not to. Mcdonalds also pay Billions of dollars on marketing to appeal to the subconscious mind so while you dont stop to read the advertisment subconsciously your mind keeps the image in your brain so when you think or feel hungry the image of Mcdonalds comes to mind. Mcdonalds isnt the main cause of obesity but it plays a huge part
The easy choice - quick, cheap, tasty, available - but not the healthy choice. People are losing touch with choosing quality foods produced locally, how to prepare easy and tasty meals, and what moderate portions are. Fast food lacks nutritional value and variety. How can generations pass on the cultural value attached to locally produced food and country traditions through such a generic, foreign and boring way of eating?
FACT: We have a huge problem of obesity and associated health problems in the Western world and this places a massive burden on our health care system. We can keep blaming the individuals for eating too much of the 'wrong foods' or we can think about how we might best solve the problem. There is no one 'cause' of obesity but fast food restaurants and the wide availability of junk and processed foods certainly contribute to the problem. You can argue that in theory adults have the right to choose where and what they eat. The problem is that children are not adults, they are influenced in difference ways to adults and they don't have sufficient understanding of what constitutes a healthy diet or how eating unhealthy foods might affect their long term health. Fast food companies use clever marketing strategies to ensure that kids want to go to their restaurants e.G. Giving away toys etc. Rightly or wrongly it is very difficult for parents to ensure that their children avoid all these temptations and the companies know that. There needs to be a much greater effort by governments and society to make healthy foods more accessible and cheaper and to make them appealing to children. At the moment the reason all of the junk foods are so cheap is because the governments subsidize growers of sugar, wheat and other crops that are used to make junk foods. We need to put pressure on them to reduce these subsidies and use the money to make healthy foods (e.G. Fruit and vegetables) more affordable.
Who says that it is strictly the person's own fault that they are obese or unfit and out of shape? While some of this holds true, the fast food restaurants also hold responsibility. They are doing what the government allows because they are afraid to lose moneyed shows the leading cause of obesity and many diseases because of what our country do to us. Sure we all have choices but not everything we want is cheap. If society could afford to eat healthier, I am sure that many would choose to eat that way. The reason why most choose it is because it is fast and easy and money definitely does not grow on trees.
When I recently visited India three years ago, I witnessed children starving on the streets on more than one occasion. On the other hand, the United States has one of the lowest starvation levels in the world since food is usually available to American residents. When most citizens encounter a staving person, we automatically infer that the person has a disease or that s/he is under the influence of drugs. This is due to the fact that starvation is one of the least common conditions that we are exposed to. However, obesity is one of the main health concerns that we are witnessing in an increasing number of youths. We need to teach our children in society not to consume excessive amounts of food since they can suffer the consequences of having health issues as adults, and the health care costs will skyrocket, resulting in a disastrous explosion on our economy.
Humans have the right to make choices. Don't eat at the resturant. It's that simple.
Fast food restaurants should not be held responsible for childhood obesity, even if their menu options encourage unhealthy eating. Parents need to take responsibility for the food choices that they make for their children. No restaurant forces a family to eat their food or dictate what or how much is ordered off the menu. It would be the equivalent of holding liquor stores responsible for someone developing alcoholism. Unless individuals and parents take responsibility for their own decisions, true change will not occur.
It is true that fast food restaurants often sell large sizes of fried foods. But, the place that children eat most frequently is still the home. Although it is hard to resist a large portion of delicious, fat-laden food, it is still important to teach children good eating habits from the beginning. A child should learn to heed hunger cues and to not fill his plate to the limit. Although eating should be enjoyable, at the end of the day, it is about properly nourishing the body with the right amount of calories.
Don't fault the company, don't point the finger.. when someone ends up doing something that is bad for their well being THEY are responsible for it... and their parents probably didn't teach them well or warn them well.
We cant blame fast food places for children being obese. They just advertise the food all though it looks good that doesn't mean that you have to over eat. Its your responsibility to make sure that you provide a well balanced meal for your child. You can substitute the fries for apples the soft drink for milk or juice. There is no excuse
It's common knowledge that the products that the fast food restaurants are supplying aren't healthy and should not be consumed often. It all comes down to quantity control, common knowledge, and moderation.
Fast food is often abused by parents for their children which yes may certainly play a role but is definitely not the cause of childhood obesity. Fast food restaurants are there to make money ,it is the parent who makes the choice to continuously give them money therefore its the parents fault for allowing their child to consume the food. Fast food is jus t a business and a convent resource parents like to abuse it for their own convince then blame health factors on the establishment. No one is forcing them to feed their kids this food therefore they themselves are at fault.
Parents who don't regulate how much fast food their child eats are responsible for their obesity. Fast food restaurants provide the product. It's up to the parent whether or not their child can eat it. And it's up to them to teach their kids that eating too much fast food is unhealthy and they shouldn't do it.
It is actually your problem to be obese, because it is your choice to go to the fast food restaurants and order what you want. Before McDonalds sold food that was cheaper so more people would buy it but no-one would ever bother to pay attention to the nutritional facts. Take a Big Mac for example. Even though it may be tasty and sometimes addictive but it has about 550 calories. About 47% of the world is obese because of their choice to save money but to go to fast food restaurants and become obese. Tht is the price you are going to have to pay just to save money
It's the parents that are ultimately responsible for what the children eat. The parents should know what would happen if they were to have more than just a small amount of junk food. They are responsible for choosing what is best for the child, however most of the parents don't take the energy out and spend some time cooking a good meal for their kids instead of cheap junk food.
Young kids don't have the choice to get in a car and drive to a fast food but their parents do. Parents that frequently take their children to fast food places will obviously tend to have an obese child but if they don't make frequent visits to a near by McDonald's their child wont be eating unhealthy food and become obese. Children depend on their parents, so they have the choice to feed them healthy food.
Fast food restaurants don't kidnap kids and force feed them burgers. Kids and their parents, make a conscious decision to get into their cars and drive to fast food restaurants, buy the food, put it in their mouths and swallow it. Oh and guess what? They go back over and over and over again.
Secondly, a vast majority of children who get fat, get fat at home. They eat home cooked meals in ridiculously high quantities and over time, when you're consuming more calories that you're burning, you get fat. It's as simple as that.
People can choose what they eat! Yes that restaurants are out to make money so they sell the cheapest stuff they can for outrageous prices. People are not forced to eat the stuff they sell. We all free will to do as we please. If we choose to eat fatten food, we will be fat by choice. No one forced that burger down our throats.
I think NOT because the fast food restaurants are not responsible for people and their children for eating there, its their fault. Also, fast food restaurants are not forcing people to eat at their restaurants, the are just offering food. Once again its their fault. This is why i say NO.
You choose what you eat, you don't gain fifty pounds overnight. As parents see their children gaining weight do they not think what could be causing it? As you see your child gaining weight and you do nothing about it, your choosing to allow your child to get obese. The fast food companies don't pick up your kids and take them out, YOU drive your kids to the restaurants, YOU pack their lunches, YOU allow them to sit inside all day.
There can be way more supporting topics that are not related to fast food chains that cause childhood obesity like...
Snacking instead of proper meals
Lack of excersize
In the child's genes
Eating food in moderation
I have provided 6 different supporting topics of which all of them are not related to fast food chains, therefore I think that: yes fast food restaurants and cafés maybe unhealthy but there are so many other things that cause childhood obesity.
According to AIHW website one in four children are overweight or obese. My name is Amy and I am speaking about fast food stores not being responsible for adult or child obesity. This is one of Australia’s most major issues. But fast food stores such as Mc. Donalds or Hungry Jacks or not responsible for this issue. A child’s parent should be setting a good example to their children. Also, it is actually not fast food stores that cause obesity. There are other factors to this problem as well. Lastly, it is found that people living closer to restaurants are not more likely to be obese than people living further away. This means that easy access to restaurants has little effect to what people’s choices are.
When children are young and learning manners the major role model they look up to are their parents. This also effects what the child’s eating habits are. Nearly 80 percent of obese 10 to 14 year olds with an obese parents will be obese as adults. It is a mother or father responsibility to give their child good food that will give them the vitamins, calcium and nutrients the need to grow healthy. A study in the Journal of Pediatrics found five independent risk factors for childhood overweight. The main risk factor was parental weight. This is because the parent’s eating habits are passed on to their children because the meals they make for their families.
My second point is that it is not the all about fast foods stores being bad for you. There are other things in play here. According to the AACAP some are of these issues are; poor eating habits, overeating, lack of exercise, family history of obesity, medical illnesses (such as endocrine etc.), medication, stressful life events or changes, family and peer problems, low self-esteem, or depression. All these things can be defeated if we only try and persist. This can also be an issue. Some children are trying to lose weight and are only bullied more, or are starving themselves every day to lose weight. Children need to be taught to change their habits.
People have been obese since the age of opera. It's all about survival but even more so since now it isn't what you eat but how much you eat. It is shown from a young age that people are mentally programmed with something that keeps them eating and eating and eating. If your full push it away. Another one is that it's your life fast food isn't forcing you to buy it. You are choosing to get it for your child. Besides size doesn't matter because you can be obese looking but be very healthy and fit.
One knows what is in the fast foods but still goes and eats there and then blames them. I totally disagree and also some fast foods offer healthy choices over their regular stuff. Like McDonald offer salad bowls but no, they still go get the unhealthy stuff and then turn their backs and blame 'em
You can not blame fast food corporations for you becoming obese. Who are you going to blame? The drive thru did not call you over to come eat the food, Ronald McDonald did not force you to come and eat there. YOU, are the one who makes all those decisions. People just look for someone to blame and fast food industries are who get most of the blame. People do not want to look in the mirror and point their finger at themselves.
You made the choice to eat fast food, knowing that it is unhealthy if you eat too much of it. Fast food companies are not responsible for your health, you are. You have to make healthy choices and live a more active life if you do not want to become overweight.
Fast food restaurants are not responsible. As I see the education is the only way to get healthier Children. And Who is responsible of this education?
I am convinced that school is quite important and must teach them about damages of fast food and beneficts of a healthy diet.
But school is not the only responsible on children's education and in that sense I am refering to the family. Because children spend most of the time at school but if when they get home there is no healthy habits all done at school will be useless
Even though the amount of fast food restaurants is increasing actually in our society, that is not the biggest cause of children's obesity. Children should eat fast food with moderation and avoid too much fast food. In addition, parents had better tell their children about good and bad effects of fast food.H1-B
Even though the amount of fast food restaurants are increasing in our society, this isn't the reason that can be the cause of children's obesity. Children should eat fast food with moderation and avoid too much fat food. In addition, parents had better teach their children some good and bad effects of fast food . H1-B
Overweight is a result of the imbalance between the amounts of caloric intakes and energy expended. Therefore, the obesity is a result of over intakes or low exercise or both. The fast foods generally are not a healthy food and contain high density of energy. Fast food restaurants or the tendency to eat fast food can contributes to the development of bad food habits, but never will be the responsible for the child obesity, because obesity is a complex disease that has several etiological factors.
Any restaurant or their owners do not require children to eat fast food. Each one has a choice to decide: where to eat, when to eat and what kind of food to eat. The children´s relatives have the obligation and duty to protect them. The children do not have the enough physical and mental condition to decide adequately what it the most convenient for them. If the children are getting more and more obese is because the relatives elude to follow their responsibilities and duties. However, sometimes the restaurants does not provide the enough and clear information about the ingredients and conditions of the food that they are providing. According with the World Trade Organization and World Health Organization every Government in the world has to require through its health and trade ministries the provision complete and accurate information about food products that are offering to consumers specials like children. If the cause that generates weight gain in children is directly related to inaccurate, incorrect or inadequate information, in my opinion it is obviously the responsibility of the food chain. Otherwise, the obesity is not generated exclusively by eating inappropriately, factors such as not exercising, as genetic and hereditary conditions or as be sedentary also contribute to be obese. Fast food is a weapon of mass destruction. Families use it as an option because it is cheap. I, personally, like many others, boycott fast food because of the unhealthiness it brings to the table. However, the person making the decision to buy fast food is to blame for obesity. Eat healthy an live longer. Simple as that.
No, fast food restaurants are not responsible for obesity because there is not just one cause of obesity, there is plenty. Yes fast food is a major role in obesity but so is lack of exercise and poor dieting. These restaurants are not holding guns to parents heads and demanding that they bring their children there- it is the parents choice.
It is a personal choice. People chose to go out and eat fast food. McDonald's has more than Big Mac's they have salads and other healthier options. People chose the unhealthy food, they are the reason that they are obese. It is no one els's fault but their own for being obese.
Many obese children, who frequently patronise fast food restaurants, like McDonald's, KFC and Burger King, lead sedentary lifestyles. These children do not exercise regularly and often sit down, participating only in activities such as excessive computer gaming, excessive reading and so on. Since many fast foods are high in fat, these children, who take in a lot of fat, store the fats in their body, slowing building up their obesity.
However, their are children who actively participate in physically demanding activities, such as running, swimming, playing badminton, basketball, soccer and others. These children need the extra calories for their lifestyle, and fast food is one of many rich sources of more calories.
It's the parents and the children's fault. I know when you're younger you don't care about consequences but that's where the blame lies on parents. When you're teenagers you should be able to eat in moderation especially with all the media around putting pressure on kids to be slim etc.
Fast Food restaurants are not BAD. They are not responsible for child obesity. They are just filthy rich because-WHY? Because they are smart companies who sat down and thought long and hard on how to make a convenient food that's cheap, easy to make, and tastes good. They got it! Fast Food. Yeah it's crap. Yeah those Ammoniated Beef filled patties ruin your body. Yeah those chicken Mcnuggets are made out of pink junk. Yeah Fast Food sucks for you. THEN WHY DO YOU CONTRIBUTE SOO MUCH TO IT? WHY DO YOU ENCOURAGE IT? You say "Fast food this" and "Fast Food that", but what do you do right after? Probably go to google and type in Fast. Even before you finish typing the Fast Food, all the options say "Fast Food near me" or " Fast Food cheap" or even " Fast Food Coupons". Then you drive over to the nearest Mcdonalds and order a salad. A salad with crap lettuce and dressing that has more fat than a BigMac. More sugar than an ice cream sundae. Don't believe me? LOOK IT UP. ITS US. Dont even say Fast Companies are bad. Wanna join an organization to look cool? For that girl? Well stop contributing to the thing you are fighting against. You might say, " Oh, I don't eat fast food" I believe you. But what about your mom? Dad? That overweight 400 pound kid sitting next to you in math? They still eat fast food. Is that the best you can do? I assure you even speech disabled people can communicate to people they know to not eat fast food. Don't give me a crappy excuse. Stop IT. Stop it. This Is Absolutely Ridiculous! TIAR!!!!!
What is keeping children inside? Technology. What does keeping them inside mean? No exercise. Does fast food play a part in obesity, sure, but is not solely responsible. Also, to continue, fast food is not the childs choice. A parent can choose whether to give their child the goods or not, it is not the childs! I think putting a label on who did what, takes away from the sole issue. Child obesity is a problem and all we're doing is arguing about WHO did it, not WHAT we can change about it!
People chose to be obese. They have no right to blame the fast food industry for anything just because they got obese from eating food THEY CHOSE TO BUY. The fast food industry sells us food because its a business. If you make millions of dollars a day worldwide, who would want to stop that?
I work at a corner store, and I watch every school day kids buying nothing but junk food. Chips, candy, and sodas. It dawned on me one day, it is not the fast food that we may eat at once, or twice a week. It is the corner stores that we visit almost two to three times a day. I looked around the store, and I saw nothing healthy. Why don't the investigate the salt, sugar, and fat in all the thing that are carried in a corner store. That seems to be on every block of the USA.
Parents do have a responsibility to what their kid(s) may eat. That can help lead to choosing fast food so they do not have to cook, or go out and eat somewhere more expensive spending money they do not have. But here's the twist, no matter what you eat, where you eat, the genetics you have, IF YOU DON'T EXERCISE AND EAT FAST FOOD ALL THE TIME YOU WILL GET OBESE. Enough said, so many lazy bums out there sitting on the couch not working out is the cause of obesity. Exercise, and you can eat whatever the heck you want.
The fact that parents go out and buy the food makes them to blame, not the restaurants. Kids can't help if their parents come home with fast food as dinner, they eat what they are provided with. Fast food restaurants aren't to blame. Parents should provide healthy food for their own kids. Other people shouldn't be blamed for parents not caring.
The parents are fully to blame, it is simple.
Young children are under direct supervision and control of their parents, and those parents, being fully aware of the health issues related to continuous eating of these products, have the power to say "NO".
In my opinion the parents know what they are doing and are lazy. They use the convenience of such products they know will save them time in the kitchen and then have the cheek to blame them.
Children and their parents are responsible for what they eat. It isn't the fast food restaurants fault for serving food that people think is appetizing. Fast food makes up ONLY about 17% of most adolescents' total caloric intake. Kids are eating too much, but, most of what they are eating isn't fast food.
Obesity is not only caused by fast food. A less active lifestyle and larger portions of food can also make you obese. It’s your choice to eat fast food. Fast food places are required to have nutrition labels, so you can find out what you're eating. Also, people who are educated about the unhealthiness of fast food become more obese than those who are uneducated.
You have the responsibility to choose what you want. You don't have to let the fast food industries tell you what to eat. It's your choice. You have the freedom to make your own decision! Advertisements usually lure in the middle class anyway, and the middle class have the money to spend on healthier foods.
They cant technically control what they eat if they are influenced by others making them feel that there is nothing wrong with eating fast food. My opinion is the lack of exercise, what there parents have to offer at home, and by the choices others make or choices they make for themselves are causes of their obesity.
Fast food restaurants should not be responsible for anyone s obesity. You choose what you and your family eat , and the amount. Restaurants don't put a gun to you and force you to eat there. Your choice your responsibility. I Have an auntie who as been working at McDonald's for 14 years and she is not obese. Why? Because she chooses not to eat there everyday 3 times a day. Parents just get lazy and rather take there kids to eat fast food and blame all does TV commercials. Are you the parent or the TV, all you have to say no and explain to your kid why they cant be eating fast food all the time.
No !!Fast food is often abused by parents for their children which yes may certainly play a role but is definitely not the cause of childhood obesity.
The reason why it is I said no I disagreed to this statement because firstly children are what they eat.It is up to that individual whether in the childhood period of their life it is up to you the parent to show them the right thing and if it is the adolescence period they should know what to eat and how much to eat they suppose to be self-conscious on what they are doing.
