I believe as we move forward and want to present a world with equal opportunities then it will be important for countries to elect female leaders such as German Prime Minister Angela Merkel. I do not believe the success of a leader is determined by their sex. I believe both males and females could potentially be good leaders and women should have equal opportunities in this field.
It's the 21st century and there's no better time for countries to reject their bigotry, fear, and prejudice and stop being afraid to elect female leaders. Even here in America, we claim to be free of prejudice and yet balk at the idea of a woman like Hilary Clinton, who has years of experience, becoming President.
There is no doubt that the cause of equality has made great strides in the past one-hundred years, but it is equally obvious that there is still much further to go. True equality will be reached when race, culture, sex, and economic background are no longer a factor in the choices we make about people. This is not enhanced by seeking diversity, because such a goal still keeps these factors as the reason for our choices. Diversity will be the outcome of true equality, but if it is made the goal then equality can never be reached. Instead of electing more female leaders, countries should elect the best leader despite sex. This will include more female leaders, but more female leaders should not the the goal.
i don't think more countries should elect female leaders such as German Prime Minister Angela Merkel. Being a female does not make a candidate more special than anyone else. We need to go by simply what they stand for. While Merkel is a good leader, she is no Margaret Thatcher.
Countires should not elect more female leaders like Prime Minister Angela Merkel. She is too critical of many subjects and controversies, and too harsh of criticism of American values and ideals. I do believe countries have the right to elect females, but Angela Merkel is too extreme and will probably bring about the destruction of Germany in time to come.
