Ole Nydal brings Buddhism to the west in a form that westerners understand and teaches in a fashion that we are accustomed to learning in. He starts by suggesting you attend a seminar, and then if you feel this religion may be for you there are Diamond Way Buddist centers, as well as his own books and other resources that you can explore. Most Westerners are not going to sit in a dusty ashram for years to spend a few minutes a day with an exalted teacher - it simply is not possible for many of us. He was ordered by the 16th Karmapa to teach and spread Buddhism to the west. I don't know what more you could ask for.
Diamond Way Buddhism has some benefits for being introduced in the West. Just the same way as Jewish Mysticism was introduced by Madonna, D. W. Buddhism could educate us. The trick is with this form of Buddhism, does it evangelize? I.e. do you need to convert to Buddhism, or can you be an "agnostic" buddhist.?
I do think Ole Nydal's Diamond Way Buddhism is an effective method for introducing Buddhism to Western cultures. Ole Nydal's Diamond Way Buddhism is a nice way to teach the western culture about Buddhism because it has so many similarities with western culture, and will make a transition much easier.
Ole Nydal's Diamond way Buddhism is an effective method for introducing Buddhism to Western Cultures. Ole Nydal was originally from Holland and went to the University of Copenhagen, from there he traveled to Nepal and began studying Buddhism under prominent Lamas. He was then sent back to spread Buddhism to the West, which he has done by opening over 600 Diamond Way centers across Europe. Ole Nydal is effective in spreading Buddhism to the west because he speaks English and can therefore teach effectively in English speaking countries.
No, I do not think that Ole Nydal's Diamond Way Buddhism is an effective method for introducing Buddhism to Western cultures, because a lot of people are not going to understand the extra emphasis on meditation that the Diamond way of Buddhism places on the practice, as compared to traditional practice of Buddhism. Also, many people in the west will not be willing to take a great deal of time for meditation.
