Do you think science subjects are more useful than art subjects?

  • Without science we'd still be living in the Stone Age!

You all are forgetting one thing if we ellimenate science from history (hypothetically speaking) we would not have aeroplains, computers, phones, electricity, vehicles, not even fire! And we need science to advance ourselves even further into the future, "but hey who needs all that when you have paint and a brush" and it's not like a painting will ever contribute to society in anyway!

  • Think about it.

In the end, it comes down to which job pays more. And, my friends, it is a fact that Science-related jobs and professions pay more than Arts-related job. Before you accuse me of basing this only on salary, take a good look at the question. What makes something useful; if it can be used in real life and that is in a job.

  • ART is not as important as science at all

Sure art helps us to write better and communicate more efficiently, science is needed for medicine, war, health, exploration, future, etc. . . . . . .

Science will help us to more forward and also help us better understand ourselves and also the word. It helps us to appreciate what we're made of and how all the mechanisms in the world work.

  • Science is what creates our world

I love science and it is what can bring us to paradise if we so desire. As we unlock the mysteries of the world we can create new matter, travel to other bodys in space. If we can make more children interested in that we can reach such things faster and perhaps better. Art is however merely something which you think is mindboggling but is marginal compared to the wonders of science. I would prefer to have both but if i had to choose there would be no contest.
    Science

  • Science is more useful.

While art is vital to a culture, science is absolutely essential to that culture's survival and future development. I realize that art is more than just pretty things, a way of expression that's very personal and meaningful. But art won't cure cancer and it won't put a colony on Mars. For that, we need science.

  • Sciences are better

Arts in my opinion is just a waste of time, as you talk, draw and create on useless subjects/objects. While on the other hand science grasps you in so many different and knowledgeable ideas. For example creating a new Mona Lisa is great but discovering the cure of cancer is so much more fascinating and beneficial to society

  • Science > Art

Science is what gives the framework for critical thinking and logical reasoning. Science oppresses the forces of ignorance and helps bring light to the world. I'm not saying art is terrible and doesn't bring light to the world but, without a decent understanding of science, art would be made redundant anyway as a lot of great art is inspired by astronomy, biology etc.

  • Science are more useful than art subjects

In today's society, science more and more play an important role in human life. Science help us to understand our world clearly. The development of science brings a lot of benefits for human in term of health, economic, transportation, etc. Science is the foundation of an innovative culture and at the core of significant political decisions.

  • Human nature will tell us

Without science, art is merely a substitute for a solid understanding of the world. The arts ARE indeed important to culture human society, BUT they are more of an artificial creation of man. A creation which has its beginnings in science. The primitive human mind sought to understand and manipulate the world around it in order to survive and thrive. This is still the case today. A painting, or a history paper, or a theatre will not 'physically' save a life. Or fill a stomach. In fact, each of these things today technically requires science. Paint is composed of chemicals, paper as well, theatrical props and buildings, musical instruments, etc. also.
The abstracts arts are even, I feel, the basis of things like racism, and even war of humankind. If one understood science and nature fully, we would not invest in such convoluted differences, and would realize we are all one in the same. But art has long been intwined with religion and culture, both of which have stemmed some of the most violent human strifes of all time (if not all).

Face it. Art is secondary to human nature. And human nature is indeed science.

  • Arts is the greatest science

Arts is a subject of imagination, creativity and happiness. It tells you to listen to your own instincts and teaches you to be happy.Science students have a lot of career opportunities today because people lead a fast paced life where they forget to eat breakfast, let alone appreciate art.No one fully understands, and God save those who do.All that people are bothered about these days are gadgets,a better way of living, more comfort, more extravangance, more luxury..But no more is ever enough to quench the thirst of us greedy humans. Tell me, had people known not how to imagine, how to chase their dreams, would they have ever created any,any of the inventions that we have today. Art is the greatest science for it teaches us to know oneself.Discover others .It is the subject of human beings and not machines. Some one above me said right in saying that art is the subject of human beings. And being human we should support it.

  • I am against the statement.

Arts is a stream where in you can illustrate your skills, learn how to communicate , trace on to all of your interested fields and live life with a sense of complete enjoyment , Irrespective to that of science. A person who is well and is interested in science stream is not a issue ,but the students who are not well in science on to there performance level are forced to choose science as there subject, what do you then expect from that particular student?

  • They are of equal value.

While science is important in making advancements in society, not everyone is interested in pursuing it or studying it. Some people are more oriented towards the arts and some more towards the sciences because those are areas where they think they will make the best contribution. Without our advancements, it is true that our lives today would be very different but without art, there would be no beauty in life and in expression and in emotion and it is important to have both in order to create diversity, and culture and freedom.

  • Arts is necessary as much as Science!

As I see from the arguments people think when the word arts is mentioned that it is about poetry, painting, music etc., alone. This is only partially correct. When a great scientist uses his knowledge for preparing a bomb that can destroy the whole world, what's the use of him being great? It's arts that teaches us the value systems and good virtues that we need to live a good life. And arts can also refer to commerce and other business researches. Without arts Countries wouldn't have a good standard of living, economies would dip, and there'd be crisis everywhere. So I'd say that Arts and Science need to co-exist.

  • Science and the Arts are Related

I do not believe one is more important than the other. The arts include a vast array of different subjects. Humanities studies are generally categorized under the arts as well as business, politics, and so on. Aesthetic art is also valuable for humanity and society. As mentioned in comments I made under "Yes" arguments, art played an integral role in the Renaissance and currently plays important, if not vital, roles in modern society.

Science and often art work together. There is clearly science education involved at liberal arts universities and vice versa. In the process of earning a bachelors of arts degree you will probably have to learn scientific topics as well such as a math course. Psychology programs often exist at both liberal arts and science universities because it can be considered a humanities subject as well as a general science one.

  • Art is usefull

Art is more important and useful as we might be able to survive with science and without art, but we would survive for what reason? Think a life without music, cooking, drawing & painting, craft, dance, drama, books etc. The world will be so emotion less. I will never like to live like robots who have no feelings at all. That is why i love arts very much

  • Humanity subject is more important!

History is always more important if we don't learn about history. We won't know how our world is created. We should learn history because many human has save the world by dying. Many people nowadays don't learn much about humanity but it is also important! Many works needs you to understand the history. For example being a lawyer you want to have a judge saying about someone's past to tell the people that their innocent you also have to look into their history!! Science won't be that good if we didn't look into the history to see what went wrong and how to make the machine or technology better!! So i really think we should learn humanity subject without humanity we are nothing!!

  • No. Not true

Science is useful. But it cannot progress without Arts. Arts offers us diverse knowledge and perspective of issues which are of vital important in the world where globalisation is occuring at a rapid rate. Not only does Arts preach knowledge, it also instil into the current generation values of their ancestors, which is intangibly important

  • Arts is better for mankind

Firstly, lets state how science betters mankind. It provides us with convenience through technology and higher standards of living the more high tech we get. It transforms human behavior and changes the way we wage war, educate ourselves, mass media, medicine and trade.

However art is undoubtedly important as well. Philosophy, history, geography and music are paramount to our culture and civilisation as a whole. It shapes the experience of mankind. It propels imagination, enriches and enhances society. It spurs creativity and paints a more beautiful and graceful picture of mankind.

In a nutshell it depends on what defines mankind. Science has brought war, devastation, hectic lives, busy schedules and unhappiness throughout the developed world. Is this really good for mankind? Are we happy with the world as it is now? Both are important, but I side with the notion that art is worth more as it defines us. I disagree that technology is more useful. Art is food for the soul, science is not a substitute.
