Do you think the athletic abilities of students should count towards their overall grade point average in high school?

  • It won't help them in the real world

GPA's shouldn't be effected by PE/Health. Some kids will be engineers or physicists. Those jobs are great but they didn't need to take PE to have them. If a student isn't as athletic as others and their grade goes down because they didn't understand the game. That's not fair. Some people will become pro at a sport, that's great but all the other kids that were is his or her class won't need to have learned how to play basketball or something like that.

  • Athletics and education are separate

I do not believe that the athletic abilities of students should count towards their GPA at all. A high school is an institution of learning, of education. Sports are just an extracurricular activity and are irrelevant. We mix the two together too much in our educational system and counting the athletic performance of students towards their academic performance is ridiculous.

  • No, it should not.

I do think that students should be able to get into colleges and universities due to their athletic abilities, but when it comes to grade point average, this should have no effect on it whatsoever. However well you do in class is based on your work, not on what you do on the field.

  • No,I do not think athletic abilities should count towards a students GPA.

No,I do not think athletic abilities should count towards a person's GPA.School is supposed to prepare a student for living in the outside world and few students can really make a living playing sports so a person's GPA should be more of a reflection of academic success and how it can be applied to the outside world.

  • No, a student's athletic abilities should not count towards their GPA

A student's athletic ability should only count toward their grade point average if they're taking a PE class. Even if a student's skill resides entirely in their athleticism, there is no formula to transfer skill to a grade. While a student's athletic ability is important for many, it belongs on a resume for college applications, not in a student's GPA. GPA centers around scholastic grades, not around physical abilities.

  • Sports Aren't Academic

I do not believe the athletic abilities of students should count towards their overall grade point average in high school. Schools are created to advance education and that generally means in academic fields and specific topics that don't include sports outside of the classroom. Grade point averages should only consider a students academic success.
