Do you think Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens)'s 2009 album Roadsinger is as good as his albums of the 1970s?

  • Yes, an artist cannot stay stuck in the past.

Cat Stevens was undeniably a very talented musician in the 1970s, but his life direction has changed. It is understandable for the public to balk at that change, but as Yusuf Islam he has grown in his talent and should be appreciated for wanting to continue on by producing an album that reflects his interests today. This new album reflects his growth as a person, and is far better than his doing the circuit only singing songs from his past, however much the public still loves those songs. As an artist, he has to be relevant to the present, and we should consider his new work without a bias towards the past.

  • He had a soul

Now his music is emotionally bland, and it seems more about content, while the content used to be secondary to the emotions.

Also it does not seem personal like his old music was. What was making him great was the mix of sadness and anger he had, and now it is not there. It does not feel genuine, like someone talking about something he does not really know.

  • No, Cat Steven's new album is not as good as his others.

No, I do not think that Cat Steven's 2009 album Roadsinger is as good as
his albums from the 1970s. I think that it is clear that he lost a lot
of the quality that made his music really good during the 70s. While his
new album may not be as good as his old one, it was still okay.

  • Decline is inevitable

Cat Stevens was a huge hit in the 1970s, and for good reason. It is certainly impressive that he has produced so much music over the years, but the truth is that his newer music doesn't have the same soul as his old music. Unfortunately, decline is an inevitable part of being an artist or musician.

  • Not his best

It was not his best. How could his albums in 2009 possibly compete to the albums that made him famous in the 1970s. The 70s were the time of Cat Stevens' peak, and, honestly, there isn't really much more that he can do to make his music more distinct and interesting.
