Does Global Warming exist and pose a significant threat to our current society?

Asked by: turtletycoon7
  • Global Warming is Ubiquitous

The first argument to win is that Global Warming does exist.
Yes, earth has been increasing in temperature since the Ice Age. However, the world had been growing in fever at an even more alarming rate ever since the Industrial Revolution started. Randomly select 30 cities in the world, and measure the average temperature. Then, find the difference between that and the temperatures of those cities 10 years ago and run a T-Test at the 1% significance level. There will be enough evidence to reject Ho at the 1% significance level.

Next argument to win is that GW poses a threat to our current society.
So, if temperatures keep increasing at this exponential rate, where do you think we will be in a 100 years? We will be on earth, but it will basically be a sauna in winter and a boiling cauldron in summer. I am sure that we would not want to die in this pitiable manner.

So, what is the solution to this obvious problem? If not to reverse Industrial Revolution, at least use renewable resources rather than coal and steam and nuclear energy.

  • Yes yes yes

Global warming is natural; yes but not like this. There is proof; evidence that cannot be ignored or denied that says humans are speeding and creating global warming to occur faster. With that being said; it doesn't really matter whether it's natural or not, it can still pose a threat to society. We have people like the Koch brothers that fight against the fact of climate change and global warming because we do NEED to stop using and that means no more using oil; which they means they will lose money. These people have no problem destroying the environment and allowing global warming to happen because they'll die before it gets too bad that it's hopeless. At this rate, by 2030 it is expected that 100 million could die. That's 15 years away. A lot of scientists believe at this rate it's between 50-100 years before global warming could cause human extinction. But that doesn't matter for the Koch brothers. They would've had their money, owned it all and that's all that matters to them. They would've died before that happens anyway. There are better ways to go even if you don't believe in global warming. Solar roadways are so much more cheaper and cost effective. You don't need to believe global warming is real or believe it poses a significant threat to want to save 1000's of dollars a month. I believe it is real and we are causing it to happen way quicker than it is supposed to & I believe it poses a very big threat to our society and the society of the future.

  • Global warming is more than just melting icecaps.

I think that global warming is important to consider in our thoughts of the future. It's not just "Oh, the icecaps are melting! Polar bears are going to go extinct!" Yes, that is going to happen, but it's not just polar bears that are going to go extinct.

We, humans, may go extinct, as well.

OK, I know, that was a bit over-exaggerated. However, this "stupid" global warming issue will cause several chain reactions.

    1) the ocean water levels will rise, resulting with flooding.
    2) the heat will cause natural disasters, such as tornados and hurricanes, to happen more often.
    3) All that freshwater stored in the ice caps will mix with the salty ocean water. Where will we get freshwater?
    4) Several satellite photos show that the Earth is "flattening"(maybe not so significant)

  • This is not a debate.

Ninety-seven percent of climate scientists agree that climate-warming trends over the past century are very likely due to human activities, and most of the leading scientific organizations worldwide have issued public statements endorsing this position. Global warming is caused by CO2 The heat-trapping nature of carbon dioxide and other gases was demonstrated in the mid-19th century. Their ability to affect the transfer of infrared energy through the atmosphere is the scientific basis of many instruments flown by NASA. Increased levels of greenhouse gases must cause the Earth to warm in response.

  • Right, the apocalypse in not a threat at all.

The raising amount of carbon in the atmosphere, causes the earth to heat up like a green house, this will cause the poles to melt, that would raise the water and remove all ocean movement, that would result in nutrition would not move around in the ocean, killing most if not all sea life.

No there is no threat, other than the extinction of most of the life on the planet.

  • I don't believe the Earth is here on accident

So no, because my understanding is that GOD created the Universe, I also believe He has the planets under control therefore Global Warming is not any sort of threat. IN GOD WE TRUST...I guess we'll let that "saying" Rest In Peace, evidently.

There is a lot of useless talk and worry about this topic when all we have to do is TRUST (in the one who created us).

  • Evidence must be heeded to that proves that there is not global warming, caused by men.

Thus, let's look at a few reasons. Firstly, the temperature of the earth has been overall flat or stagnant, not heating, through the past seventeen years, according to Phil Jones, the quondam Director of the Climate Research Unit. Next, no scientific consensus has been reached and over 31,000 scientists have signed a petition opining that humans are not causing global warming. Thirdly, and probably most paramount, is that the methods that 'show' the threat of global warming have almost all been erroneous. "Former NASA scientist Dr. Roy Spencer says that climate models used by government agencies to create policies “have failed miserably.” Spencer analyzed 90 climate models against surface temperature and satellite temperature data, and found that more than 95 percent of the models “have over-forecast the warming trend since 1979, whether we use their own surface temperature dataset (HadCRUT4), or our satellite dataset of lower tropospheric temperatures (UAH).”" Therefore, it is evident we have been receiving qualms about something projected by faulty methods. Finally, many projections of the extent of global warming have been crazily incorrect, Al Gore's predicting that all the arctic ice would be gone by 2013, is one for example. Well, its actually increased 50% since 2012... Because of the latter evidence, and the many other proofs, I believe that there is no threat of global warming to our society.

  • Aint a thang

The earth naturally cools and heats up through periods of time (hence the ice age) and the earth just went through a period of gradual heating. To blame global warming on greenhouse gases and different man made things effecting nature is incorrect and not real because global warming is not a thing.
Sure, humans could lay off on the chemicals we produce to creat smog and poor air quality and whatnot but that creating global warming and effecting nature is not true

  • No no no

Global warming has decreased since 2012 Firstly, the temperature of the earth has been overall flat or stagnant, not heating, through the past seventeen years, according to Phil Jones, the quondam Director of the Climate Research Unit. • No, there is no threat.

Let me bring up the fact that correlation is completely different then causation. Most of the studies done on global warming have resulted in final statistics that show CORRELATION. Not CAUSATION. Correlation doesn't mean anything. It just means that the statistics you are comparing are similar. For example: If you were to graph the birth rate in Norway, and the rate of new stock creation in Norway , the two graphs would look similar. Does this mean that they affect or change each other in any way? Of course not. So, if Global Heat Levels correlate to Emissions of co2, it does not mean they affect or causate each other. This leads me to believe that because humans are likely not causing or affecting global warming, therefore not worsening it and creating a threat to our society.
