Does illegal immigration help or hurt the economy?

Asked by: Rezamee
  • They do no harm at all!

The immigrants are offering YOU to work for you. They do all the hard labor and work while you have more leisurely time. Although the immigrants may have a hard time, this is what they offered you to do the work. They also get the farm work done a lot quicker and improves everything in the agriculture industry 2/2/16

  • Overall more good than harm

The question is hard to answer as there is both harm and good to illegal immigration. I believe that overall, immigration, legal or not, does more good than harm. Many menial jobs are taken by immigrants, increasing our labor surplus and freeing more qualified natives for better jobs. They do pay taxes; social security "contributions" , i.e. payroll taxes they are not eligible to collect.
It is a myth that immigrants steal jobs. There are not a fixed amount of jobs in the economy. Anyone who thinks that learn the lump of labour fallacy.

  • Illegal immigrants hurt the economy far more than they help it

Illegal immigrants often work under the table. Their money is not taxed and usually some is sent home. They do not have health insurance and if they get sick, they are a drain on hospital resources that are then passed on to paying consumers. Children born to illegal immigrants or who came by themselves, are a major drain on school districts who have to accommodate them, although the parents would not be tax payers.
Lack of jobs and opportunities here can lead some to crime and subsequent incarceration in the penal system, thus burdening an already overwhelmed justice system.

They do take jobs many Americans feel they are too good to do but the cost of illegal immigration is to great when compared to the benefits.

  • They not Legal and don't support the economy

The illegal immigrants themselves are only here to "find a new life" when in reality the poor areas they live in are about the same as their home country so why suckle on america's teat when your life will be the same except you dont make any money for the country but instead loose it

  • Are they legal? No case closed
