Overdependence can be a bad thing, but relying on IT's is a good thing. IT's are the future, and IT's are good, but for IT's to work, you need a system of some sort to make them work, and if such a system, we will finally reap the benefits of IT at long last.
A dystopia will only happen if a worldwide calamity hits all at once. Disabling electric grids won't cause a bad future for humanity. There will still be food, work and money. If a huge EMP from the sun knocks out our electric grids, humans will find a way to get by. Disabling IT networks won't knock us back to the Stone Age. We'll just have to rebuild the networks.
