Most people don't give a crap about what happens to wildlife, but we all pay attention to Trump and the family separation act, etc. They are NOT the same thing as politics, as one gets more attention than the other. We see more politics than environmental changes nowadays, just politics.
" Does politics distract us from environmental issues? "

Climate change is a distraction away from the business of Politics which is the business of every living being whether they wish it to be or not,

Environmental issues are directly impacted by politics. As such, environmental issues have become political, and can be a major factor in a campaign. I would even argue that having clean energy, and carbon emissions become central topics of political debate that politics are actually drawing attention to the environment, rather than taking it away.
