  • Islam is not a religon of Peace

    Islam isn't a religon of preace, just look at all the jihadist that take the meaning of the Quaron to the extreme by going out and launching massive attackes against Israel and the United States. Then they enforce Shira Law which is a major human rights violation of many people.

  • It did not specify which religion or why.

    Just as there are good people and bad people, there are good religions and bad religions here is my opinion:
    Good religions(in accordance to message) ;
    christianity, Judaism, budhism( though I probably need to read up on it more to be certain)

    Bad religions (in accordance to message);
    Islam( ex. "don't THINK, only follow, sacrifice yourself, murder anyone who openly and relentlessly defies the belief-system)
    Hinduism(you were born a member of this class and you will die the same, cows are more important then people, if you do what you're told you will be "REWARDED" in the next life by being an animal)
    satanism(worship and do the bidding of a being who was originally only heard of as the ultimate evil)

    religions of good(by deed):
    Uncertain, power corrupts history and absolute power corrupts history absolutely.

    Religions of bad(by deed):
    once again uncertain but definitely Hinduism and Islam.

  • Obviously but not all the time

    Religion can led to terrorism as it displays images and symbols that can influence people to do it, an example would be Osama Bin Laden's campaign, which was also driven by Islam. It would be wrong to say "no" as it has done in the past but doesn't always cause it. It's just one of the major factors that can cause it.

  • Religion doesn't cause terrorism. Just because a group of terrorists who kill masses of people say they are religious doesn't mean that it is true.

    Many people who claim to be loyal to a certain religion tell lies and take said religion and twist it so that it fits their view of that religion. But it doesn't mean that its right. Many terrorist groups, including Islamic State, twist religion so that it is made out to be a violent, merciless and aggressive religion that is in favour of the killings of innocent people. For people to believe that religion is the root cause of terrorism is even worse because it feeds into the wishes of these dangerous terrorists and can increase hatred towards religion as a whole.

  • Extreme faith is harmful

    It is clearly understandable that the people who commits these atrocious acts are truly men of faith (Jihadists). Perfect faith.... And to say it is not religious is to remove ourselves from reality, it could be said that they hold beliefs that are entirely destructive and reflective to their faiths. This is the truth about these people who we call "jihadists" they certainly dont consider themselves as terrorists but call themselves as a soldier of God or Allah. How we convinced ourselves however is that they dont represent their religion and that they destroy Islam and this is of course the worst part, we give ourselves reasons not to criticize and ridicule Religions (Christianity, Islam, etc) and that it is immune from any statements contradicting or questioning its core. People who are professing these faiths are equally capable of doing violence, destruction, terrorism and goodness, the whole problem here is that they have holy books to justify their actions which is actually what concerns me a lot deeply..... These people are just following "divine orders", mandated by their holy books... Which is why we have to act accordingly against this stupidity and unnecessary infliction of suffering to people.

  • Organised religion is dangerous

    Religion is not the only cause of terrorism but it is definitely one of them. By devoting yourself to any form of organised religion, you are accepting the rules of that religion with NO evidence that you are correct. Terrorists who bomb innocent people in their god's name have interpreted their religious books in a certain way and believe they are doing the right thing. There is no right or wrong way of interpreting a religious book because no one has proof that anything in it is correct. While organised religion exists, there will always be people killing in others in a deity's name.

  • You have to believe in what your doing, right?

    In order to do such horrific acts, you must believe that what your doing is right. It doesn't have to be a specific religion that motivates the individual, it could be a made up or unwritten belief system that is behind the motivation. However, the belief that you are not wrong has to be there. Religion by definition is, "the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices" this includes unwritten beliefs as well.

  • Extremists are crazy.

    You don't need to be only extreme about religion. They could be extreme about... Anything. So stop blaming religion for everything. I know religious extremists have caused a lot of problems to the world, especially Islamic ones, but Islam is a great religion, and that's coming from a Christian. Remember, it's the extremists, not the actual religion.

  • People Cause Terrorism

    Religion does not cause terrorism. Religion is intended to benefit people, it is when people lose sight of the real purpose of religion that they can becoming insistent upon what other people should do. Peoples thoughts and ideas create terrorism. When people judge, which most religions say you should not do, then people create divisions that are not there.

  • It is worng

    This is because there are some people join Terrorist groups is because of Religion. Religion is and has been an excuse for many extreme Terrorist groups such as Al ’Qaeda and many civilians. This is because they argue that they don’t have a choice about what they want to do or not because they say that GOD told them to do this and that which means that you can’t argue against them and their GOD. Also another reason why they do this is because they believe that it is wrong to disobey GOD

  • It's not the religion, it's the people who misinterpret how to practice their religion.

    People who practice a “hard-line form of Sunni Islam”1 can misinterpret extracts of the Qur’an to an ‘extreme’ and then often practice their belief of this confusion from the Text. Also, extracts from the Qur’an are frequently used by Extremist Muslims as their ‘proof’ to make people think that suicide bombers are martyrs for their belief, as opposed to being called mentally-ill murderers. Being a suicide bomber is, without a doubt, is a terrorist act, and so this links with religion being a main cause for terrorism.

  • No it doesn't

    You don't have to be a Muslim to go and blow up a building. One of my friends talked to a guy who said, "Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims." This is not true. There are plenty of atheists who have participated in terrorist acts, so religion in and of itself does not cause terrorism.

  • No, extremism does...

    Extremism causes terrorism, of all forms. In the 1970's there were a rash of left leaning radicals who used violence to help "advance" the world. Radical anti-government groups commit terroristic from time to time. Intolerance and bigotry cause violence, not religion. Religion however (like any group) can be used as a breeding ground for these ideas, as its much easier to say that being gay is wrong because god said so then repressing one's feelings or simply through ignorance.

    "Islam isn't a religon of preace, just look at all the jihadist that take the meaning of the Quaron to the extreme by going out and launching massive attackes against Israel and the United States. Then they enforce Shira Law which is a major human rights violation of many people."

    I read lannan's comment and I just laughed. You want us to make abortion illegal and agree with christian views, but Shiria law is just plain wrong? Extremist christians bomb abortion clinics and we dont talk about that. A Jihadist tries to blow up a plane, it makes front page news and we have to strangle our freedoms. Islamaphobia much?

  • This opinion topic is too general to warrant a legitimate debate.

    Personally, I think that religions of all kinds are detrimental to culture and society as a whole. That said however, asserting that religion causes terrorism is too great a stretch to allow an effective 'pro' argument.

    A = C is a fallacy.
    A + (some other factor, often radicalism, but other times more minute) = C is a much more approachable topic.

    I would argue that religion promotes terrorism is very obvious ways, but I cannot, in good conscience, say that religion *causes* terrorism.

  • No religion does not cause terrorism

    No, I do not think that religion is to blame when it comes to terrorism. I think that there are those who are on the fringe of certain major religions and misinterpret certain tenets of religion as a way to justify killing many people when that religion tries to promote equality.

  • No, but religious extremism can.

    Religious extremism, including Christianity, can cause terrorism. There are instances of such in America's history. But religion, in and of itself, does not cause terrorism. When people are INTOLERANT and believe that only their religion and their understanding of their religion is the way to go, then that is the seed that plants the potential for terrorism. And that could be a Baptist as well as any other religion or denomination.

  • Extremists cause terrorism.

    It is not a religion that breeds terrorism. That responsibility falls on the extremists who push their views on impressionable children and those who are grieving from the sorrow of losing a loved one. They blame the deaths on others to benefit their personal agendas and rid the world of what they call "infidels".
