Does religion have value in today's secular society?

  • Yes yes oh my yes

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes,

  • No, not really.

To state that religion a minimal impact on todays society is an understatement. Of the billions of people in the world many will practice and/or profess Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and other and they are making changes in the world that are either good or bad. This, of course, depends on where you stand.

  • Religion is not needed in today's society

Lots of people have said that religion provides the basic guidelines on how we should live our lives, and what is right/wrong. But in these days, all of this is already reinforced by the law of the land right? Also, saying that the hope of an afterlife gives us reason to do good in this world is wrong. You don't see atheists running around killing and stealing... In fact the world could be better without religion, taking into account that a lot of terrorist groups act the way they do because "it is G.D's will".

  • Religion has Value.

I believe religion is the glue that holds mankind together as it teaches service to mankind. It provides the blueprint for living life well and with core values. Religion teaches to let go and let G-d while at the same time instructing us to use our free choice for the good. Religion but moreso belief in G-d teaches us to escape from the prison of self interest and go beyond self. It is freeing and transformative but one needs teachers and guides. Religion is ultimately soul food and I have tasted it and it is deflicious.

  • Yes it does.

Religion has value in toady's society because many people still practice religion and hold it in the highest accord. Just because some people do not go to church does not mean that most of us are not religious, we are just respectful about it and try to make sure to not make others uncomfortable with it.

  • For some, yes

Religion has a place, and it's valuable as long as it knows where it is. Non-religious people don't need to be berated about why they need to accept ___, but if somebody finds religion helps guide them in life and give them hope, more power to them. It doesn't have value to as many people as it may have previously, but it's not worthless by any means.

  • Religion has value in today's secular society.

First of all, today's society is more religious than mass media would imply. Religious values bring an elevated conscience to society that, without it, would have people rampaging in the streets against each other like wild animals. It provides a common understand between people of the boundaries between good and bad, irregardless of the specifics of most religions.

  • Yes, religion is still important.

While Hollywood and celebrities probably make us think today's society is secular, most Americans (approximately three-quarters) still identify as being of the Christian faith. Also, a lot of our basic morality, such as not murdering, honoring our parents, and the Golden Rule ("do unto others") are based on a religious foundation. We get a lot of our most basic thoughts of morality from religious faiths.

  • The Golden Rule

I believe religion does have value in today's secular society. I believe people are still swayed by religion and many have morals that are based in their religion. I believe it has value, because pretty much every religion teaches some form of the golden rule, which is something humanity must follow to survive.

  • Religion is very important in our society

Religion is far more important in our society than every. For the past 20 years or so, our society has departed further and further away from the Bible and God, and our moral standards have gone so down that our future children will have not comprehension of right and wrong at some point in their lives. We need religion, specifically the understanding of God, who teaches us to love one another and live peaceful lives.

  • Value in Religion?

In today's society religion s valued... Why? Because yes it may have a place, but with all the contradictions in some of the Sacred books in certain religions, how can it have any value? For example. The Bible says that we should love on another yet homosexuals are an abomination. At this point in time homosexuals are being accepted and that's the end of discussion but the way some religious people are, wanting religion in life has no use because there's no acceptance and that is a value in today's society.

  • It is not needed at all

Religion plays too much of a role in our everyday lives. People who are not religious are also affected by religion just as much as people who practice it. Religion is used way too often in the decision making of many political leaders. This causes a huge conflict for people who do not have any religious affiliation because if laws are passed based on a moral compass proposed in the bible, then non-religious people, or people of other religions are often hindered by those laws. Religion also places way too much discrimination on people that do not follow a certain path set by the dominant christian religion in America. Religion is a fallacy that shouldn't be opposed on others who do not want it.

  • Religion stands in the way of advancement

Religion, at the core is giving up personal responsibility and pursuit of knowledge. Faith is belief without evidence, logic, or reason. To accept that is to accept ignorance. Were that not bad enough the requirement of religion to oppose change holds back scientific and medical advances.

    Knowledge, not faith is power.

  • Religion is outdated.

The thing is that religion commands respect and a sensation of fear of the almighty. You can believe in G-d but at the same time not follow any religion. Religion divides society into people who have their own interpretations of unknown facts. For example: Before, burkhas were used to protect women from the invaders' eyes and check kidnapping and rapes. What value does it hold now? Similarly people used to go to gurukuls and learn religious texts as a science. Some facts of which have been proved wrong currently. Why do those religious texts which contain myths be believed now?
