Does the existence of the third world facilitate the wealth of the first?

  • Poverty over there means wealth over here.

    This is more a feeling than anything else, I am open to be factually proven wrong. It seems that to provide the growth and prosperity we see in the west we must exploit the poor working conditions and low wages found in the third world. It is to our advantage that such conditions exist and to perpetuate said conditions. Infact if the third world joined the first it would be detrimental to our stability.
