I feel that not only should there be campaign contribution limits, but each candidate should be restricted in how much they can spend on campaigning. This would allow lesser known candidates to have a fair stake in elections. Contribution limits prevent wealthy individuals and more importantly companies from essentially purchasing a president for their own gains.

Without limits, candidates can effectively be "bought" by donors or special interest groups with access to large amounts of money. Limiting the amount of money that any one individual or group can contribute lessens the likelihood that a candidate will "owe" favors to their donors.
