  • Yossarin Does Live

Yes, Yossarian lives. Though the ending events of Closing Time seem to indicate the world is doomed and so is everyone on it, Yossarian is last seen alive, happy, and thriving. This snapshot of his "final" time is all that matters as after this point, there is no more story.

  • Yes yes yes

    Yossarian is nothing if not a surviver. 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words 50 words

  • I'm not convinced.

The last we hear of Yossarian, he has gone to Rome to find Kid Sister. We aren't sure how he's going to find her and join Orr in Sweden, and neither is he. Last time he went to Rome unauthorized, MPs found him in a matter of hours and returned him to combat; what is there to suggest the same won't happen again? I don't say there's no way he survives, but he's not guaranteed freedom. Maybe Orr's inspiration was all he needed, but maybe it's not enough. Nately didn't die until he was most sure he wouldn't, which could be Heller's way of saying the same happens to Yossarian.
