E-government: Can E-government technologies add value to governance and democracy?

  • The internet and electronics can be empowering

The internet and e-government, if done correctly, can usher in an even more flourishing democracy and accountability, and with that freedom for every citizen. The internet and telecommunications have enabled us to be a truly global community for the first time, and within the confines of our own nations be truly connected to one another.

  • E-government Technologies Do Not Add Value to Governance and Democracy

I do not believe that E-government technologies add value to governance and democracy because true democratic governance uses the opinions of all constituents, not just those who can afford the technology to express their opinions. Other issues with E-government would include potential vandalism, identity theft, or information overload which are all challenges to true democracy.
