Equal prize money for male and female athletes: Are female athletes working just as hard?

  • No females should not being paid equally

Males are naturally paid more and thus this should reflect the status quo. If Males and Females were paid equally, the shakeup could cause potential economic ramification for the sports industry which is a multi-billion dollar industry and this could be devastating for the world's economy. Thus, Males and Females should not be paid equally

  • Yes they deserve equal prize money.

Female athletes work just as hard as male athletes and should be allowed to receive the same amount of prize money as males do. In fact it should be mandated that they receive the same amount of money since we are suppose to be living in a time of gender equality.

  • Yes, female and male athletes should be paid equally

Male sports are typically more exciting, therefore there is a larger potential for profit since more people will pay to see it. Female athletes work just as hard as their male counterparts, but since they physically cannot compete at the same level, they will not have the same number of viewers.

  • No, of course not

Obviously, your gender shouldn't decide how much money you make. What does decide it is how much value you provide to your employer, and how much money they make off of you. As an employee you will be paid a percentage of that, nothing more.

In general, people prefer watching men's sports, which is why men make so much more money. More viewers = More sponsors = More money.

To make the argument that women should be paid more simply because they are women is asinine. If that argument would be valid, why is nobody talking about chess players earning less than basketball players? Why is nobody talking about the #250 ranked tennis player earning far less than Roger Federer.

To sum it up, a person is, and only should, be paid a percentage of the money they bring in to their employer, nothing more.
