The Lisbon Treaty was filled with multiple problems, both for the individual nations and the EU's structure itself. Ironically, one of them is it did not integrate the economics enough. The reality is, despite all the claims from all sides of the spectrum, the EU has never been much about actual integration, and more just about making corporations have an easier time between countries.
There are many alternatives to the Lisbon Treaty. One of the main alternatives is to disband the European Union so that those people who feel that its establishment was illegitimate can return to being governed by a more legitimate government. Although purporting to further democratize the EU, the Lisbon Treaty is hardly a perfect solution and alternatives should be considered.
