Except in the case of rape, should people who get abortions (including the father) be sterilized?

  • There are not enough penalties for abortions

I believe that the society has become so immoral that they take killing an unborn child with a grain of salt. I was once in the emergency room, and I overheard the person next to me say that she was pregnant. Her family was there, and her older sister told the doctor that "Abortions are her family's form of birth control." That is just despicable.

  • Bareback in exchange for killing a human life??

To the people who are just irresponsible and have unprotected sex, if they're not ready for the consequences of unprotected sex, they shouldn't be having sex unprotected in the first place. Not because 2 people are irresponsible, selfish, or lack self-control that a human being they've created gets killed and have it's body ripped up by a gynaecologist! Not because of two people's genital pleasures that someone must be murdered in return!

  • Education of youth

Instead of sterilizing a population of people who have abortions I think it would be wiser to educate the population about sex and remove the taboo. Most unwanted pregnancies are the result of misinformation and our reluctance to talk to teenagers about sex simply increases the chances of them making a mistake. Sterilizing a person for having an abortion is horrid, counter productive and a vindictive measure. I'm sad to say it theists but abortion is here to stay and proposing sterilization as a punishment for having one is an underhanded and hypocritical suggestion. How about taking care of the people who are here already instead of sacrificing them for the sake of a zygote.

  • Why would you do that?

Why would sterilizing someone do anything? I mean, what benefit does this give to anyone? Exactly, none. Abortions sometimes have to be done because of money issues or just the fact that you are not exactly, or not ready to, take care of a child. Also, why would you not allow people that were practicing safe sex get an abortion. Not all contraceptives work 100% and all have room for failure, including birth control. So why would you punish someone for a function that they cannot control ( the sperm fertilizing the egg) , or could not have controlled( the condom breaking)? Sterilizing people for that would make people who want to have children (just not at that time in their lives) unable to have children in the future.

  • That is the wrong way to go

Punishment for abortion is not a deterrent or a cure and its immoral. Proper education in human sexuality would do a far better job at preventing unwanted pregnancy, but sadly only abstinence is taught, this is not enough. This explains why Christians like yourself expend more moral energy opposing abortion than fighting for proper sex education. You believe that your religious concerns about sex have something to do with morality. And yet, your efforts are almost never geared towards the relief of human suffering. This prudery of yours contributes daily to the surplus of human misery. Have a nice day.

  • That's completely barbaric

This is sick. Eugenics? Are you kidding me? Gee, maybe we should sterilize people who have sex before marriage or people who watch pornography. The idea that we should sterilize certain people because a few people happen to not like what they're doing is despicable. Nobody actually wants abortions - if they could have avoided accidentally getting pregnant or having a severely disabled fetus, they'd take that option any day.

  • Cruel Punishment for a Legal Procedure

A woman's right to choose how, when, and with whom she has a child is protected under the law. Sterilizing two people because of your own religious or political beliefs is unbelievable. Forced sterilization is a violation in the extreme. Many pro-life crusaders are also for abstinence only education- the evidence shows that one or the other of these causes have to be dropped. The US should follow many European countries in how they educate and discuss sex (as a basic fact of life, not a sin).

  • Absolutely, inequivically no.

So if you decide to have an abortion at 6 weeks, you have to choose between not having a child at let's say 16 or never having children ever? This is extremely wrong. Like it or not abortion is legal in this country up until a certain point and it should remain that way.

  • People who get abortions should not be sterilized

People who get abortions, including the father, should not be sterilized even in the event of a rape. This is because of the fact that abortions are a definite solution to a problem, and a good one. People should be able to have abortions if accidental pregnancies happen. The baby feels nothing. It infringes on women's rights.

  • I don’t think that people who get abortions should be automatically sterilized against their will.

I don’t think that people who get abortions should be
    automatically sterilized against their will.
    That is preposterous. People
should have the freedom to get abortions if they want to without being forced
to be sterilized by force. America is
supposed to be a free country where everyone has the freedom of choice.

  • People who get abortions (including the father) should not be sterilized.

A woman's right choose is protected by the law. There is no reason why someone who chooses to get an abortion should have to be punished with sterilization. This punishment is cruel and unusual and no one would support it. Even people who do not support abortion would not go this far.
