My feeling is that a coach does not have to have won the Super Bowl as a head coach to be remembered as a great coach. Buddy Ryan will be remembered with reverence for all of his accomplishments, his aggressive schemes, team records he contributed to setting, and generally being ahead of his time.
Yes he will be remembered as great coach because at the end of someone's life, it is human nature to focus on the good they have done. Even the worst people will come out seeming virtuous. Football not important in the head scheme of things and only fold will focus on that at the time of his death.
Yes, despite never winning the Super Bowl as head coach, former National Football League coach Buddy Ryan will be remembered as a great coach. While the ultimate goal of the football season is to win the Super Bowl, it is my opinion that the game itself does not boil down to that one match - it is the culmination of the entire season. Buddy Ryan's contributions throughout his coaching legacy are further reaching than a Super Bowl title.
Buddy Ryan will always be remembered as a great coach, despite never winning the Super Bowl as head coach. Looking back, it was Buddy Ryan who helped Chicago’s 46 defense and they won the Super Bowl XX. Buddy Ryan is a legend and his name will always be associated with the NFL.
