  • Marriage = procreation

Procreation is defined as the ability to reproduce, which is something homosexual couples are not capable of doing together. According to Kerfluffer (another poster on this site),”In Biblical terms, sex is marriage and marriage is sex.” So, if you can’t have sex, and reproduce with your partner wouldn’t that mean gay marriage really isn’t marriage

  • Keeping track of procreation

Is the purpose of marriage. When a fertile man and a fertile woman have sex without contraception, the potential is there for a baby to be conceived, whether intentionally or by accident. This potential is not there otherwise. Who the mother of the child is, was something that throughout history was very obvious. But the identity of the father might be a mystery. So the purpose of marriage as a state institution is to keep track of what man was linked to the woman at the time of conception. Period, end of story. Any other attachments to marriage as an institution are just romantic or bureaucratic trappings. The purpose of marriage was originally to establish paternity of offspring, and that purpose is still necessary to establish paternity, unless we plan to go down the road of doing paternity tests for all pregnancies.

  • Procreation is the reason why marriage exists.

Regardless whether you love the one whom you marries, the main reason why marriage exists is to have procreation. The State doesn't care whether you love the one who you're marrying- they only care that you need to have babies to keep society thriving. Just because some married couples can't procreate, doesn't get rid of its sole function of procreation in marriage. Take for example, certain vehicles like cop cars, ambulance cars or government cars are able to bypass red traffic lights- so does that mean then that the sole purpose of red traffic lights (which is to stop cars dead on the line) is made none of effect? Of course not. Just because something is let through doesn't mean it will let other things to be passed through. People marry for many reasons, they either want have kids, for money, to acquire a position or the family arranged it for them. It's not about the abused word of "love".

  • In Biblical terms:

In Biblical terms, sex is marriage and marriage is sex. The distinction exists only because sex outside of marriage implies your partner is temporary and not a lifelong affair. Thus, the reason Christianity opposes sex outside of marriage is exactly because marriage is supposed to be permanent and exclusively between two people (a man and a woman).

Our cultural (and secular) understanding of marriage is a public display of such a union between two people. Procreation is only an extension of that.

  • No,the key function of marriage is not procreation.

The idea of gay marriage should be totally acceptable because the key function of marriage is not procreation. The main function of marriage is to unite a couple in love whether or not they have children or not so it would be totally acceptable for a gay couple to marry even though they might never have children.

  • The key function of marriage is not procreation.

The key function of marriage is not procreation; that's sexual intercourse. The key function of marriage is the lifelong committment to your partner and companion in life. All of the arguments that state that gay marriage "violates the sanctity of marriage" is based on insufficient claims and foundations. The actions that violate the sanctity of marriage is those acts in deception, adultery, lust, and general disregard for the respect of your partner.

  • Gay marriage is not key to marriage procreation

Gay marriage should not be condoned as an lawful institutionalized. Same sex marriage should not be categorized in the same way as normal marriage. Since Procreation and marriage are intrinsically implicit but not legally writ, they should be considered mutually exclusive and should come up in the same argument for those who want to deny Gay marriage. The argument should be invalid.

  • Marriage is about commitment, not children.

There are plenty of people that are unable to have, or do not want, children that marry. It is hypocritical and discriminatory to allow those people to marry and not others. Furthermore, transgender people may have a sex change and marry, one could argue any marriage they have would be a gay marriage. Marriage is commitment between to people and a contract.

  • Gay marriage and procreation should not be involved in the same argument

Since Gay marriage is a license for individuals of the same sex to be lawfully wedded, I believe that the argument that marriage and procreation being mutually exclusive is valid. As long as there are Homosexual people who wish to engage holy matrimony as a licensed affair, I believe that the procreation argument (in regards to Gay marriage) is intrinsically invalid.
