Yes, President-Elect Trump should produce a formal foreign policy position to clarify his position on Russia. After continuing to praise Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump needs to make it clear to Americans and the rest of the world what his relationship is with Russia. This is especially important considering the role Russia has played in the conflicts in Ukraine and Syria.
Trump needs to take his thumbs off his Twitter account, stop worrying about reality TV, and start taking action. If he is going to be POTUS, he needs to start acting like one. He needs to make plans and let people know what he is going to do and where he honestly stands on issues.
One of the reasons I think Trump won't produce a foreign policy plan is because he doesn't have one. Not once during the election did he produce one or could even speak to one coherently. He is winging this and soon everyone in America is going to realize the truth.
The current administration has failed extensively in the arena of foreign relations in the last eight years, especially with Russia and President Vladimir Putin. We have been left exposed and vulnerable, at times appearing divided, ineffectual, inconsistent and submissive. Why let the other team read your playbook? Trump should continue to play it close to the vest. People often neglect the fact that he is a formidable businessman who may just do some of his best work in foreign affairs where business savvy and negotiation so often intertwine. America is still a powerful nation, if not the most powerful. Every world power will have to coexist with us regardless of Trump's policies. There's no harm in letting Germany sweat a little.
