It is a surprise that apparently Russia has been trying to influence the media with its own agenda. Although countries, including the United States, have attempted to spin the media, this behavior takes on a new level. Doing so exposes Russia to ridicule on the international stage and attempts by others to to the same to them.
Everybody knows how the Russians go about their business so we shouldn't be surprised one bit that they do dirty tactics like publishing fake news stories. It is good that Germany are investigating it, unfortunately the U.S. is about to experience years of Trump falling in love with Putin which means other countries will have to keep an eye on the dodgy Russians.
Russia has shown its hand and rubbed it in the face of the rest of the world. Putin doesn't bother to deny or even pretend to investigate allegations of election tampering in the US presidential race of last year. Trump certainly isn't motivated to bulldog Russian hacking into our sensitive systems.
Relative to faking news stories, it is not surprising that Russia has been influencing the media to advance its own agenda. In fact, the United States does exactly the same; the same as any other country does. All countries do what is in its best interest. There really is no surprise here, and no one should be taken aback by these developments.
