The only chance San Diego have to get rid of Mike McCoy is if their team leaves town. Just five of the other 14 men who have been head coach of the Chargers left the team possessing a winning record. McCoy is 22-26 in three seasons, placing him sixth on the list.
There is no sense in keeping someone who cannot make a positive change in a short period of time. McCoy shouldn't have had to win the Super Bowl in the first year, but he should have been able to finish some place other than last. The Chargers should cut their losses and move on.
It is not uncommon for them to fire the coach after a losing season, and in many cases it makes perfect sense because the coach sets the whole tone for the team and is responsible for wining the games. They will almost certainly fire Mike McCoy because he failed so badly.
The San Diego Chargers as an organization have never had any patience for coaches who lead them to a losing season. They have a great quarterback in Philiip Rivers, so if a coach can't get this team to do well, he doesn't have a future in San Diego for long.
