Half the managed bee population is transported to California each spring to pollinate crops. Should the presence of multiple bee populations receive additional oversight?
  • Yes, it should.

    Oversight should be required. Large gatherings of bees from varying parts of the United States presents a large opportunity for communicable diseases to spread within the bee population. Mites, viruses, and other disorders can be partly blamed for declines in bee counts. The stress of ongoing travel could be another factor.
