Donald Trump at one time claimed to support Planned Parenthood whereas now he says that he would shut down any location giving abortions. The most recent claim is that he would close them if he had the power; the truth may be harder to find. His opinions on matters seems to bounce around.
Donald trump seems to have taken both sides of the Planned Parenthood issue. He claims to support the organization while also assuring voters he will work at defunding them. Trump says he supports the organization in its activities related to women’s health except abortion. Trump asserts, “As far as Planned Parenthood is concerned, I’m pro-life, I’m totally against abortion having to do with Planned Parenthood,” Trump said before the audience. “But millions and millions of women, cervical cancer, breast cancer, are helped by Planned Parenthood.” He continued, “So you can say whatever you want, but they have millions of women going through Planned Parenthood that are helped greatly.”It appears he is clearly taking both sides of a very volatile issue. By showing support, he can hope to gain women voters who are Pro Choice, yet by asserting he will defund them, he may expect continued to gain support from the more conservative Pro Lifers. Will this gamble pay off for the billionaire casino magnate? And how will he delegate these promises to both camps, should he make it into office? By taking both sides of a hotly contested issue like abortion, it would seem like an eventual “lose/lose” situation he is setting himself up for should he enter the Oval Office.
Trump's opinion doesn't really make sense. If he thinks Planned Parenthood helps people, why does he want to defund it? "Because I'm pro-life" isn't a legitimate explanation. I think that he probably does support Planned Parenthood, but since the Republican party is so fiercely opposed to it, he feels like he needs to say that he will defund it.
This is a conflict. I know of no other person who claims to be pro-life and also supports Planned Parenthood. This in itself is a conflict. Planned Parenthood does offer other health services, but these are also available at other health clinics. If he supports Planned Parenthood for this reason, then he can not say he is also pro-life. He is twisting his ideas to fit the agenda of the moment.
