  • Yes, the advancement of science has improved human knowledge, communication, and health, as is evident by many examples.

It's unclear what the question means when it asks whether science has "manipulated" human progress. I assume it's asking if it has helped that progress, and my answer is "yes". Many advances in science and technology carry risks and create problems (dangerous weapons and energy extraction technologies that harm the environment come to mind), but these can be addressed, at least to some extent, through deliberation, collective effort, and further scientific work. Meanwhile, certain advances have increased human life expectancy in advanced and developing countries, facilitated the spread of ideas and cultures globally, creating more opportunities for people to pursue a greater variety of ambitions. They have cultivated relationships across great distances that was never possible before. They have reduced the degree of back-breaking manual labor required for survival while increasing time for leisure, culture, and more satisfying work. Science and technology offer too much good to forsake. Ignorance also carries risks.

  • It absolutely has, and in the best way possible.

Science is the backbone of all human culture. Cooking, crafting tools, building houses, ipods, airplanes, stained glass windows and the printing presses that have printed millions of bibles were all products of scientific thought and reasoning. That science is a 'manipulator' is a wonderful thing for mankind.

  • Only to a slight degree - not enough!

We are surrounded by the most astonishing and rapidly advancing technology, but young men are still killing each other on the streets over imagined slights. Technology now advances faster than human nature evolves. We are still the same old savages on the whole.

  • progress in humanity IS DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL to science

We cannot live without without satisfying our demands as well as our wanting to know why something is that something the fruits of this question are physics chemistry and biology and in our course we found difficulties and problems to be overcome we could solve these problems with the help of physics understand them with the help of chemistry and finally we understand ourselves with the help of biology thus the cycle of these process is essential for our progress therfore i would conclude by telling that scienceis the cause of the advancment of humanity

in reply to IscoBradley ther is a branch of genetics which aims at improoving the human race genetically if this is succsfull then i think your reason will be satisfied

  • There is no doubt about it, we would be entirely different culturally if we didn't have progress in science.

Science has pulled us out of the dark ages of plague, ignorance, and tough day to day sticks and stones living. No one would want to go back before antibiotics, electricity, and not knowing that a tornado is bearing down on their community. We live longer and better as a result of science.

  • Science advances have altered humanity's path by extending lives and allowing rapid transmission of information.

Science advances have undeniably influenced humanity's progress by extending lives and especially by allowing for the instantaneous transmission of information. On a genetic level, science has actually made it more likely that those with poor vision hand down this gene, for instance, since correctable poor eyesight is no longer a life-endangering condition! But it is the spread of information via telecommunications that is speeding up society's development now.

  • Yes, the advancement of science has played an important role on the advancement of humanity through what it has produced, both good and bad, because it was inherently revolutionized so much.

Science is at the core of everything that humanity has achieved over the last thousand years or more. It has revolutionized the way we travel, eat, sleep, and even go to war. The changes are not always good for humanity or the world around it, but science has been a driving instrument of change in the way humans have lived, dating back to the invention of fire.

  • The advancement of humanity has been greatly effected by science and everyone realizes it.

Even the one person who said yes, because after I read his thoughts, it has nothing to do with how science has not manipulated the progress of humanity. But know acknowladging that, the next question appears. How has the advancement of science manipulated the progress of humanity? With the new technologies that science has created have increased immigration and globalization. But has decreased health and inceased diseases and obesity. Polution (gas and fuel), has created diseases and deaths. Social networking sites and cell phones have divided people from one another and increased depression. Everywhere, there are proof that science has done alot of great Pros, but then you see the ginormous list of cons.

  • With the increase use of technology, people are more absorbed in gadgets & machines rather in human emotions, they don't have much time left for each other.

I think as the science is progressing and technology is increasing, people are going farther away from each other. Their life is lot more hectic then ever before and thus they don't have sufficient time for each other nor they care much about human emotions which ultimately results in depreciation in humanity progress.

  • People have used scientific breakthroughs to change the course of history.

Scientific achievements have completely changed the course of history. From the development of sanitary techniques to motorized vehicles, science has enabled people to live in much denser populations. Science has provided mechanization and made many tasks easier. That has allowed people to devote more time and energy to other pursuits. Without science people would be focused only on day to day survival. We wouldn't be able to consider feats like particle acceleration or space travel, much less actually achieve those goals.

  • I think what we are truly asking is: Is science helping us dig an early grave, or build an endless future?

Science IS: asking the question "WHY and HOW?" over and over, while refining the question each time. More questions equals more answers, and we need storage for all the answers (brains/computers). But, obviously we have much to learn about living on earth considering we are piling up mountains of toxic waste that prove only harmful to our existence; successful organisms don't bite the hand that feeds them. The only way we can support our large population is to learn how to sustain nourishment while decreasing toxicity. Okay, so...Who can we learn from? Who knows how to survive on earth for prolonged periods of time? Who knows how to regenerate their waste into nourishment? Is the answer No Living Thing OR Every Creature. In other words, are we unlike every thing else on earth or are we no different? Is modern technology proof that we can surpass that which limits all other beings, or is technology proof that our hunger for answers (aka science) is the most toxic substances of all? Only time will tell. In the meantime, ants seem to be doing pretty well...Maybe we could ask them.

  • The progress of science has been detrimental rather than beneficial to human

Science has scored many breakthroughs instrumental in extending mortality and making the earth a better place to live in. But there have been alarming trends, such as ‘mad’ scientists eager to go on to the next step-human cloning. Still the benefits science has reaped may be said to outweigh such ill effects of scientific studies.

  • Science has obliterated one's emotions and sentiment

The approach of science towards life is crude, monotonous, lifeless, devoid of feelings and love. A switch can destroy the whole world. We had seen the devastation caused due to the atomic bombs in hiroshima and now there are more scientific more accurate warheads available that can destroy the whole world with an hour. Man has started feeling himself almighty and ignoring spiritual values. It has lost his peace of mind, inner satisfaction , ethics etc.
    THANK YOU

  • The advancement of science has not manipulated the progress of humanity, at least not negatively, as the right advancements have been beneficial.

Technological and scientific advancements will always be beneficial if used responsibly. Communication devices such as cellphones have advanced in ways that bring people closer together; medical advancements have prolonged and saved lives. In the same way, artistic advancements have broadened our minds and changed the way we think and look at the world. The world is always moving forward, and if certain groups of people cannot handle that or embrace scientific progression in hand with humanity's progression, then from a Darwinian point of view, they are somewhat lacking.
