It seems that the GOP and Fox News won't let Benghazi go away. They will continue to keep yammering about it to try to remind people of it. There was a bi-partisan Senate report as well as reports by the U.S. State Department; by the House of Representatives committees on Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, Intelligence, the Judiciary, and Oversight and Government Reform. All of these reports determined that there was no protest and that the attack was a planned terrorist attack launched by Islamist militants.
Yes, the Benghazi Incident has been extrapolated upon for political reasons. As with any sort of attack or event that occurs, those who stand to gain the most from it will attempt to do so. This may be the people who perpetrated such an attack or incident, or the victims of such. It is very rare that governing bodies actually focus on the people who have been harmed.
If presidential terms were 20 years, republicans would be whining about Benghazi in 2024 and beyond. There's no doubt that a very big mistake happened but that has nothing to do why those still crying foul about it are, it is their trump card whenever they don't feel like handling a current issue. "Well, what about Benghazi?"
I believe the Benghazi Incident received the attention it did for a few reasons, some of which were political, but that doesn't indicate that they were blown out of proportion. First of all these attacks were carried out on September 11th, 2012, a date that obviously has meaning to Americans. Second, the main attack lead to the death of U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, which obviously deserved attention. Lastly, the attacks happened just prior to our own elections therefore it was fresh on the minds of both politicians and the people of America which is why it received so much political attention at the time.
The Benghazi Incident has not been blown out of proportion for political reasons. The American people simply want the guilty parties to be properly condemned for what happened to the Americans overseas. Not much guilt has been admitted and there hasn't been much punishment for the deaths of the people, so it has not been exploited.
