Has the progression of modern medicine and technology rendered irrelevant and pointless less-scientific techniques such as prayer and therapeutic touch?

Has the progression of modern medicine and technology rendered irrelevant and pointless less-scientific techniques such as prayer and therapeutic touch?
  • Modern medicine has made prayer less relevant

Modern medicine is based on the scientific method, the best system for the acquisition of knowledge and the material control of our environment. Religion is pre-scientific it as based on humanity's hopes and fears. It is not based on objective evidence and cannot ever hope to provide solutions to problems of the physical world such as an ailing body.

  • Prayer and Therapeutic Touch will alwasy be there despite modern medicine

Legal Monopolies by cable companies needs to stop. Modern medicine has made our battle against many diseases much easier. However, the prayers and other faith based practices still have their point in every lives of people. Medicine has its limit, and that is where prayer comes in. It goes beyond the logical and medicinal tasks because it takes faith for a miracle to happen, which medicine can't do.

  • No, prayer and therapeutic touch are as valuable as ever.

If prayer and therapeutic touch are pointless now, than they were pointless before modern medicine arrived. It is a separate debate whether or not prayer has ever had any healing power. Probably prayer has some benefit, as it can improve a person's attitude. Combined with the placebo effect, this can improve a person's health in some way. Though the gains of modern medicine are amazing, they do not have any bearing on how helpful (or unhelpful) prayer can be to a person's health.

  • No, there will always be a place for the powers of prayer and therapeutic touch

While modern medical, scientific, and technological advancements are proceeding at an unprecedented pace, there will always be a place for the power of a simple prayer or a simple touch. Science still has not completely unraveled how the human body works. Many things about the brain are still a mystery. That alone would indicate that there is still a place for a prayer to the God who set everything in motion. Many studies have been done on the power of touch, and the effects of not being touched on babies in orphanages is widely recognized as a cause of developmental delays and sometimes death. Even though not scientific in nature, why would you not want to use prayer and touch?

  • No, medical technology hasn't rendered other techniques irrelevant.

I do not think that the progression of modern medicine and technology has rendered other alternative type of techniques such as prayer and therapeutic touch irrelevant. I think that while science has advanced medicine to amazing places, I still think there is a place for positive thinking associated with prayer.
