Hate crime, kidnapping charges filed against 4 in Facebook Live torture case: Should hate crime have been included in the charges?

  • It is what it is

There must be some evidence that this was a hate crime, and therefore it should be punished as such. Just because the victim is white and the criminals are black, that doesn't mean it cannot be a hate crime. Blacks can assault whites for being white just the same. It's a two-way street.

  • Most definitely a hate crime

Abusing a person who is mentally handicapped, while also spewing rants about 'white people,' certainly puts this evil event in the hate crime category. What is especially disturbing about this crime is the age of the participants - these are fairly young people. Who knows what future acts of hate and violence these criminals would have committed had they not been caught.

  • Absolutely. The Facebook live torture case was a hate crime.

The people involved in this crime should no doubt be charged with a hate crime. There is no question this was a racist act. The video provides the audio evidence to the fact. Had this situation been reversed, white people torturing an African-American, it would be all over the media as a racist, hate crime.

  • I think hate crime should be included in the charges

The video clearly shows the beating of a mentally challenged boy and racist remarks being made in the background as the video is being made. This sounds to me to be a hate crime and should be treated as such. There is no excuse for this type of behavior and justice should be served.
