Health insurance mandates: Is mandatory health insurance better than automatic enrollment?

  • Any health insurance is better than none.

This is one of those cases where I think mandatory is for the best. It boggles the mind to see grown adults kicking and screaming and crying over mandatory health insurance. It's like watching someone throw a fit because they couldn't be on an airplane crashing into the ground. Health insurance is good for you, it's something you need, and it's something you should be forced to have.

  • No, mandatory health insurance is not better than automatic enrollment, it is worse.

In my opinion, mandatory health insurance is not better than automatic enrollment, it is worse. Because mandatory health insurance requires each and every individual to pay for individual coverage and that is not cost effective and is wasteful. Whereas automatic enrollment by employers ensures greater pools and wider demographic diversity as well as huge cost savings.
