I absolutely share the opinion that Gordie Howe (Mr. Hockey) was one of the greatest, if not the single greatest, players in the sport of hockey. His accomplishments were awe-inspiring. He played and played well for a total of 32 seasons until an age far greater than the average for hockey players even on a team along side his own sons. He even participated in a game at age 60.
Gordie Howe was known as a legend in the world of hockey. Any hockey fan or player knew his name, and new his legend. He worked hard to become one of, if not the best players the sport has ever seen. Wayne Gretzky, well-known in younger generations, even released a statement calling Howe the best there ever was in hockey.
Gordie Howe's life was dominated by hockey; playing over 25 seasons for the Detroit Red Wings. In fact, Howe even gained the nickname, Mr. Hockey. He helped the Red Wings win 4 Stanley Cup World Championships, as well as compete in many playoff games. After retiring from the National Hockey League, Howe went on to play in the World Hockey Association for several seasons. In short, Gordie Howe will be remembered as one of the all-time greatest to ever play the game of Hockey.
Wayne Gretzky is considered the greatest hockey player of all time, but Gretzky himself considers Gordie Howe to be the greatest player ever. It's hard to compare the two since they played in different eras, but I think Howe is definitely one of the top five hockey players ever. Gretzky, Bobby Orr and Howe are all in the top five.
