If same sex marriage is legalised, is it okay for churches to refuse marrying same sex couples?

  • They can be sh*tty human beibgs if they want to be

As much as i would absolutely hate it, yes they can on one condition. Private relgious institutions, churches, etc can no longer be under tax exampt status or take any money in any way from the federal government.
Theres a lot of things churches will not do already (divorce, etc)

  • Forcing A church to do a gay wedding is stomping on their rights.

As it is not right to deny that gay people the right to marry it is not right to make churches, and the officials within them, to preform same sex marrage. Why would you want to get married in such a negitive enviroment anyway? Find someone who is happy for you!

  • Of course it is.

There's no better way to alienate religious people than forcing them to blaspheme (in their minds). Remember, some of them believe an eternal pit of fire awaits if they do. Besides, If a priest or church don't want to marry same sex couples, I don't think the couples would want to be married by them anyway.

  • Yes that is fine

Here in the UK where same sex marriage is legalise this is exactly what happens. If church does not want to participate in the wedding then the couple can find another or a registry office etc... This way everybody's freedom is protected, churches are allowed to take part and/or refuse to take part. And same sex couples can FINALLY get married.

  • Church weddings are...

Church weddings are as much ceremonial as they are functional. Those that wish to get married may get a civil marriage that is just as legally binding as a church wedding. That is what is, and anyone wanting to change that is in the wrong. Any complaints about churches refusing to marry them are simply attacking religious freedom.

  • Gay people are the new social fascists.

First, they said they don't want to change the definition of the word marriage, all they want is civil unions and the same tax benefits as straight married couples. Great, fine, granted. Then they said that marriage isn't a religious institution, so they now do want to call same sex unions marriage. A little resistance, but fine, court grants that it's gay marriage, but it's up to the state to recognize it. More and more states recognize it do to a dramatic increase of public support, so great, it's only a matter of time before all states recognize it. This will be the point that straight and gay marriages will be equal, but is that enough for the people who "just wanted equality"? No.

In an article written by Ben Shapiro back in 2013 for breitbart news (http://www.Breitbart.Com/big-government/2013/06/26/irs-could-revoke-non-profit-for-religious-institutions/), he says that once gay marriage is accepted, they will go after churches' non-profit status that refuse to we gay couples. He was openly mocked for this by virtually every liberal news outlet and they all said the same thing..."We believe in everyone's first amendment rights, and you are paranoid if you think they gay community will go after churches, they just want equality". Now you have people such as Stefy saying " As much as i would absolutely hate it, yes they can on one condition. Private relgious institutions, churches, etc can no longer be under tax exampt status or take any money in any way from the federal government. " Literally what conservatives were mocked for saying a few years ago. They want to have the government to come down on not only churches who won't wed them (btw why do they care to get married in a church if it's not a religious institution), but also come down on people who won't participate in gay weddings. There are plenty of examples of businesses that were lost (such as bakers, photographers, flowershops, etc.) because they didn't want to participate in gay weddings. Keep in mind that churches/businesses can and do deny service to straight weddings all of the time too. I know because I am currently helping plan my own and have been turned down by a few venues/caterers.

If person X wants the the government to coerce person Y into doing things they don't want to do in order to fit with the ideals of person X, then person X is a fascist who does not believe in the freedom guaranteed by the constitution. The only thing worse that person X is the government that is willing to stomp on the rights of person Y in the name of "political correctness"

  • You have your rights, they have theirs

You can just say that you have the right to marriage and they don't have the right to refuse you to have a marriage in their church, if you want a same sex marriage it fine. You argue that why heterosexual couple can marry in church and you cant, but you should see the irony in that.

  • It is wrong

Gay marriage is wrong in gods eyes and the world is trying to say its ok and its not if you are a christian you would stand with me and not support the abominations and pray that the united states will go back to being a god fearing country. God is ashamed of the united states.
