If someone found a cure for cancer, would forces seek to hide it?

  • It is a no- brainer

In a culture where money, not truth, TRUMPS everything, a cure for cancer would end big pharma's power. There is profit in cancer but no profit in cure. If cancer is cured, then it is the money that ends. It's funny how the public trust big pharma, their track record of cures is non-existent.

  • Greed over Compassion

Of course it would be. Look at cold, cough, and flu medicine. It, in no way, combat's the germ. All it does is combat the symptoms and make you feel "better", when in truth, you're still sick. Then you get up and go to work, infect somebody, and they buy the same thing. A cure for cancer might be able to be sold, but consider this. What would be more profitable, chemotherapy that actually could make you have a different form of cancer, or a cure that get's rid of cancer permanantly. You see, you can't infect someone with cancer, so you wouldn't be able to purposefully spread cancer and then force a treatment on them. A cancer cure would be much less profitable than somewhat effective treatment that could give you cancer later.

  • Yes, I Believe Some Might Seek to Hide a Cure for Cancer

Somewhat cynical, I do find the likelihood that someone would attempt to hide a cure for cancer to be not out of the realm of possibility. People make a lot of money on cancer treatments and money is a strong motivator for all sorts of activities. As others have said, the money is in the treatment not the cure. Once someone had a cure, however, it would only be a matter of time before it came out. Likely, once the people responsible had found another financial source or were outed by a whistleblower.

  • That would be impossible

Someone would blow the whistle. They would never get away with it. The public outcry would not be worth the hastle. What is possible is that companies fund treatment research moreso than cure research because there is more money in treatment than cures. They still wouldn't be able to stop a cure if someone found one, and wouldn't be foolish enough to try.

  • A Cancer Cure Would Provide Much Profit as It Is

"Forces" is far to vague a word. Does this means governments, hoping to use cancer as a weapon? Is it healthcare corporations? Is it insurance companies?

The truth is that it appears we're a few years away from an AIDS/HIV vaccine, and it could argued that it would be much more profitable to infect lots of people and force treatments on them at major expense. Cancer cures would be wildly popular and extremely profitable worldwide.

Hiding it would be a major scandal, and someone caught attempting to cover it up would ruin his own life when the whistle blower proved it.

  • No, wouldnt make sense

In this day and age of conspiracy theories one of the more laughable ones is that the government is holding back a cure for cancer to try and prevent over population. If that was the case then why waster millions of dollars to help find a cure for a vaccine you don't want found, makes no sense at all.
